JOB SUMMARY AND KEY PRIORITIES:

Active Minds is committed to building and sustaining a diverse, anti-racist, and inclusive work environment and community among our full breadth of stakeholders. The Vice President of Equity and Inclusion will be a passionate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) champion, and provide thoughtful and creative leadership and guidance to embed the principles of DEl and Anti-Racism and Inclusion (ARI) in the everyday work of Active Minds. The VP will work collaboratively across the organization to develop, monitor, and report on actionable and measurable DEI & Culture goals, strategies, and metrics in alignment with the organization’s strategic goals. They will concurrently lead Active Minds staff in developing, implementing, and refining initiatives that support the emotional wellbeing and mental health of diverse populations in the areas we serve: in colleges, K12, workplaces, communities, and policy and digital spaces. A member of the Senior Management team, this position will report to the Executive Director.

Founded in 2003 by Alison Malmon after the tragic suicide of her brother, Brian, Active Minds is dedicated to supporting a new generation in ending the silence, helping to make mental health as highly valued as physical health. Through our many programs, we are changing social norms and behaviors related to mental health across the country.


KEY RESULTS:

  • Provide organization-wide leadership for Active Minds’ commitment internally and externally to enhancing and sustaining diversity, promoting a culture of inclusiveness, advancing cultural competence, and developing strategic initiatives that contribute to the success of all staff and volunteers and to Active Minds’ engagement of the diverse population we serve.
  • Working with the Sr. Manager of People and Culture, promote DEI and ARI principles in recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding, and through education and trainings for all staff.
  • Serve as a DEI and health equity expert across the organization, with our network and partners, and in the field, which may include:
    • Acting as a resource to Active Minds staff on updated research or emerging issues which advance health equity.
    • Delivering presentations, in-person and virtual trainings, issue briefs, position statements and other written materials, and representing the organization at key national conferences and meetings, to leverage opportunities for enhanced leadership and growth within the field.
    • Supporting equity-informed data and evaluation of Active Minds programs, initiatives, and outputs.
  • Lead the integration of DEI and ARI principles into external programming and initiatives, including suggesting organization-wide approaches to various DEI topics through both programmatic and communications lenses; securing diverse partners to participate in relevant initiatives, etc.
  • Serve as the Executive lead for our ARI subcommittees, partnering with organizational leadership and all staff to facilitate updates and achievement of the goals in Active Minds’ Anti-Racism and Inclusion plan.
  • As a member of the organization’s senior management team, participate in regular Senior Management meetings to promote an organization-wide commitment and approach to diversity, anti-racism, and inclusivity in all areas of our work.


ABOUT YOU:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 6-8 years of leadership experience in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion
  • A strong commitment to social justice and action-oriented work
  • Significant experience leading workplace diversity, anti-racism, and inclusion initiatives, including experience with implementing organizational transformation activities
  • The ability to identify and lead through change, including organizational and behavioral change across levels and audiences
  • Solid knowledge of DEI & Culture Engagement best practices and trends; experience advancing an organizational culture into one of DEI and culture improvement
  • Broad HR functional knowledge and business acumen
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, and interpersonal, organization and managerial skills
  • Demonstrated success working cross-functionally across an organization


Minimum salary for this position is $110,000 and comes with a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid vacation and sick time; paid federal holidays; health, dental and vision coverage; and 401(k) matching. The starting pay for this position is equal to others at the same level throughout the organization. Candidates whose experience meets both the minimum and preferred qualifications may be considered for a starting salary that exceeds the current amount.
