The Faculty of Medicine and Health is the largest faculty in the University and contains seven academic schools, including Sydney Medical School (SMS). SMS has clinical schools located in metropolitan and rural campuses. The clinical schools, including Westmead Clinical School, have strong collaborative relationships with the health services within communities in which they are located. The faculty operates across three major metropolitan health precincts, and one rural/regional precinct, where University facilities are co-located with hospitals and medical research institutes. Each precinct is a centre of multi-professional and multi-disciplinary education and research.

Our West Precinct encompasses facilities at both Westmead and Nepean and includes three clinical schools (Westmead Clinical School, Nepean Clinical School, Children's Hospital at Westmead Clinical School). Students and researchers in the West Precinct can undertake study and research in dentistry, medicine, medical sciences, nursing and public health. To further embed our staff and students across the West Precinct, we have invested around $80 million to date in infrastructure, upgrades to education facilities and academic programs and initiatives. In 2021, the University partnered with Westmead Hospital and The Children's Hospital at Westmead to launch the new Westmead Hospital Block K, a key facility for increasing integration with our partners and supporting our work to embed research and teaching across the precinct.
