Westchester Community College was founded in 1946 as the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in White Plains. In 1957, the County of Westchester bought the 360-acre John Hartford estate in Valhalla and designated 218 acres for the community college. Job Description:

The Adjunct Counselor will:

  • Assist students with the selection of career choices and opportunities;
  • Assist students in the pursuit of employment/internship opportunities including document development, guidance, and preparation;
  • Facilitate coordination of career opportunities with student, faculty, and employer partner, utilizing an interactive online recruitment tool to assist with connections;
  • Conduct regular review of student progress and generate reports;
  • Complete other student career development related duties as assigned in support of Career Services goals;
  • All other duties, as assigned.


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:   The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in a non-specific field and 2 years of professional experience along with a Master's degree in Guidance Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or closely related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Strongly preferred qualifications include: knowledge of career guidance & career counseling techniques; knowledge of college academic programs; the ability to relate to students of traditional college age as well as non-traditional students of various ages with diverse educational and socio-economic backgrounds; the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, effectively use computer applications and are comfortable learning new systems; ability to facilitate career development workshops including resume development, interviewing preparation, job search strategies and other workplace preparation sessions; and the ability to engage faculty & employer partners regarding student career opportunities.


Additional Information:

WORK SCHEDULE: Up to 28 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

POSITION EFFECTIVE:  The position will remain open until filled.

HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $45.32 per hour. No benefits.  This position is fully grant funded until May 12, 2023.
