Job Description

Long Island University invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean for the School of Business, Public Admin & Info Sciences . The Assistant Dean is responsible for providing assistance and support to the Dean in planning, coordinating, managing and monitoring and evaluation all functions and activities associated with students, faculty, administrative personnel, programs, and associated operations in the School of Business, Public Admin & Info Sciences . The incumbent serves as the representative of the Dean in assigned areas and in the Dean’s absence. The Assistant Dean supports program planning, outcomes assessment processes, professional development and recruitment for the College

He/she must have the ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals, both inside and outside The School, including undergraduate and graduate students, full-time and adjunct faculty, administrative personnel at campus and university levels, parents and outside agencies. Strong communications and technology skills are required, and the incumbent must have a working knowledge of university financial management policies, procedures and reporting. Flexible hours, including weekends, and evenings, are required to execute the position’s role responsibly.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Implement and monitor programs, policies and resource application necessary to accomplishing the mission, goals and objectives of the School.
  • Works with Chair and Directors to finalize course schedules and teaching assignments, ensures full workloads for Full-Time Faculty and approves all workloads prior to being sent to Payroll.
  • Evaluates graduate admissions applications for Dean’s consideration.
  • Reviews and provides feedback regarding budget plans and the management thereof to support effective use of University resources.
  • With the help of student and co-workers, is responsible for maintaining the COM website as well as the academic bulletins current and up to date.
  • Completes surveys and required paperwork to augment the College’s status including US News and World Report and the Princeton Review.
  • Oversees and assigns High School Scholars courses to College of Management faculty and interfaces with appropriate staff to assure payment of same.
  • Assists with researching and writing of miscellaneous and ad hoc reports/projects as they are needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Education Requirements : An earned Master’s degree in Business, Education or related field

T raining, Skills, Knowledge, Experience : Background in an educational setting. Skilled at Microsoft Office particularly Excel. Will work as part of the College of Management Dean’s Office team and must be able to work collegially

Working Conditions : Office setting on campus; in some instances, travel will be required for recruitment purposes.

Starting Date : As soon as possible

Salary : Commensurate with experience.
