Job Description:

Community College Counselor of Students with Disabilities -

Conduct student orientation and advisement sessions and help students in developing and achieving individual educational plans. Assist students in defining personal and educational goals. Create an environment conducive to student development, self-awareness, and self-direction. Develop proficiency and maintain competency in the use of computer applications used in counseling, teaching, and articulation-related activities. Participate in general faculty functions related to the educational process and in-service programs. Work with colleagues to develop and maintain quality counseling programs for students. Assignment may include day and evening hours. Be able to perform duties as assigned.

For this position, employees must have at least one of the following minimum qualifications:

1. Master's degree or higher in rehabilitation counseling from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent; OR

2. Master's degree or higher in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) and either fifteen or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semesters, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a postsecondary Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) Program or in a program dealing predominately or exclusively with people with disabilities, or two years of fulltime experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following;

(A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or

(B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.

SPECIAL COVID-19 NOTICE:

Employees must reside in California while employed with the South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD), even during remote work.
