Job Description

Position Summary

Victoria College's KEY Center (a TRIO Student Support Services program) and the Department of Academic Support and Student Success are hiring for part-time tutors.  These positions are responsible for assisting Victoria College students in the subject areas of Math, English, Humanities and Sciences at the Victoria Campus Tutoring Center.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Be available during scheduled hours to tutor Victoria College students
  2. Attendance of all tutor training required
  3. Continual communications with the Lead Tutor and Gonzales Campus staff mandatory
  4. Adhere to flexible schedule guidelines
  5. Maintain a positive attitude and provide positive feedback often
  6. Keep current on training to improve competency and obtain a better understanding of the tutoring pricess, leading to College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certificaton
  7. This position will access student records at times and follow all FERPA guidelines
  8. Perform other duties as assignd by the Lead Tutor

Qualifications

  1. Student tutors must have two (2) recommendations from faculty members at VC.
  2. Student candidates must be enrolled in 6 or more semester credit hours (SCH) for the long semesters and 3 SCH during the summer at VC, and be in good academic (minimum GPA of 3.0) and disciplinary standing. They must also have an A or B in their subject content.
  3. All tutors must complete a skills test with the application.
  4. All tutors must receive an 80% or greater on their skills test in their subject area.
  5. Excellent presentation and communication skills, the ability to follow through on responsibilities, and a willingness to contribute to the VC experience.
  6. A clear understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the comprehensive community college and the achievement of academic excellence.
  7. Proficient with MS Word, MS Office Outlook, and Excel.
  8. Operate equipment such as computers, scanners, and copy machines.
  9. Ability to relate to college administration, faculty, students, and the public in a positive, courteous, and tactful manner.
  10. Ability to successfully manage multiple projects.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, key pads, etc. Will be required to sit and reach with hands and arms as well as, sit, stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds while loading office supplies and paper. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, some color vision, and the ability to adjust focus from documents to computer screen. Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
