Continuing EducationGeneral Summary
A patient care technician (PCT) provides hands-on care to patients with a variety of healthcare needs. PCTs help patients with procedures such as taking vital signs, performing electrocardiography (ECG), blood draws and other needs.
Specific Position Duties
- provide bedside care and advocate patients’ needs
- interact in daily communication with patients, nurses, doctors and patients’ families
- conduct catheterizations, saline locks, and wound care procedures
- prepare, initiate and discontinue dialysis treatment of the patient in both hemodialysis and central venous catheters
- Develop course/program curriculum to address online, face to face, or hybrid courses.
- Prepare lesson plans, course syllabi, and Course Verification Forms.
- Assess and modify teaching methods to accommodate a diverse population of participants.
- Keep accurate attendance records.
- Submit required paperwork on time.
- Participate in in-service training activities offered by the department.
- Work a flexible schedule as determined by instructional activities.
- Coordinate instructional activities with other faculty/staff in order to plan and promote the most effective instructional programs possible.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CE Admin. team.

- Must demonstrate enthusiasm.
- Teaches the depth and scope of class materials as outlined in the syllabus and catalog and relates the instruction to careers and employer expectations.
- Implements evaluation for outcomes assessment, and achieves established results while maintaining college standards of student satisfaction.
- Works creatively and collaboratively with classes to ensure student persistence.
- Begin and end each class at the designated times, providing a full period of instruction.
- Responsible for keeping the classroom and/or laboratory clean, organized, and ready for the next user.
- Provide support to students requiring additional academic assistance and tutoring.
- Submits at designated times, grades for all students on the class roster.
- Accurately maintains attendance records in accordance with the Attendance Policy, submits class roster daily (electronically), maintains a separate record of attendance and grades that is clearly labeled and turned in at the end of the term.
- Calls all students who are absent and submit written reports of pertinent information to the Program Director.
- May be required to attend adjunct instructor training, in-service meetings, and other college events.
- Must be a self-starter and a positive role model.
- Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with the program staff and participants.
- Ability to teach with technology, preferred.
- Ability to teach weekdays and weekends, preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form and ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
- Must demonstrate a strong desire to teach and help others.
- Must be computer literate- Accounting Software, word processing, spreadsheets, and Internet (ex: Microsoft Office, Suite, and Google applications).
- Ability to make procedural decisions on sensitive, confidential issues
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Knowledge of and ability to apply current education methodologies and techniques
- Knowledge in the content area.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A valid Texas Department of Education certificate/license in the Patient Care Technician field preferred.
- License as a RN required.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in the field required.
- Teaching experience is not required, but any teaching and/or training experience is considered.
