Baker University’s Business and Economics Department seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of business and accounting, beginning August 2023. Along with a passion for undergraduate teaching and an appreciation for the role of the business curriculum in a liberal arts setting, a strong candidate will have teaching expertise in accounting and management, along with other business topics. Strong candidates will also show evidence of successful teaching and effective support and guidance for students pursuing internships, and display an eagerness to actively engage with the Kansas City area business community. A master’s level degree in business or a related field is required, along with relevant work experience. CPA, CMA, and/or PhD preferred. Applicants should not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H-1B visa status).

Founded by a Methodist bishop in 1858, Baker is the oldest university in Kansas. The Department is part of the University’s College of Arts and Sciences located in Baldwin City, Kansas (residential four-year campus). The Department offers majors in Accounting, Business, Economics, International Business, and Sports Administration. The Department is also an important contributor to the data analytics and pre-law interdisciplinary minor programs.

This position is tenure-track and at the assistant professor rank. The full-time teaching load at Baker’s Baldwin City campus is 4 + 4 (two-semester calendar). Eligible candidates will be considered based on their (1) teaching experience, (2) demonstrated ability to foster student engagement and success, and (3) ongoing professional learning.

A description of the accounting program at the College of Arts and Sciences is available at www.bakeru.edu/accounting and the business program at www.bakeru.edu/business. Courses that this position will be asked to cover will depend on the candidate’s experience and qualifications, but should overlap with at least some of the following topics: Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting I & II, Fundamentals of Management, Human Resource Management, Ethics in Business, and possibly some advanced accounting, data analytics, or quantitative methods topics.

To begin the application process, please complete the “Online Application” form available at www.bakerU.edu/jobs (see link at top of the page). Note that you can skip the “Employment Experience,” “Education,” and “References” sections by uploading documents at the bottom of the form. A complete application will include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness, statement of teaching philosophy, and names with contact information for three references. Queries regarding the position may be sent to Dr. Judith Smrha, Chair of the Business and Economics Department and Search Committee Chair. Review of applications will begin October 1, 2022, continuing until the position is filled. EOE.
