DORMITORY HOUSEKEEPERHousing and Residential Services, to maintain and clean designated areas of one or two assigned dormitories, but may be required to work in other dormitories as needed.  Will clean and wax floors, including striping, refinishing, and buffing using powered floor cleaning equipment; clean carpet, drapes, and upholstery; dust in high and low areas; clean common areas/equipment, including lounges, furniture, hallways, elevators, kitchens, and kitchen appliances; clean, sanitize, and resupply restrooms; remove trash and recyclables from dormitory on a daily basis and place materials in dumpsters/recycling bins; use cleaning equipment like wet/dry vacuums and handheld cleaning tools; put up safety signage when cleaning and secure area after cleaning; clean out dormitory rooms and clean bathrooms and common areas during periods of residential turnover; set up for special events; and report any unsafe conditions/hazards to supervisor.  When dormitories are used as housing for conference guests, will service residential rooms, including making beds, emptying waste-baskets, and distributing soap and towels.  Will report to the housing operation manager.

REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent; ability to communicate effectively with supervisor/colleagues/customers, read and understand written directions/safety signage/documents, and write and use e-mail; ability to use the IT equipment utilized for work order tracking and other types of job-specific technology (upon training); and ability to work independently or as a member of a team.  Must be able to move weights of up 50 pounds; traverse the dorm and campus, remain stationary, bend, kneel, and/or stoop for extended periods; wear a department-issued uniform; and wear personal protective equipment as required.  PREFERRED:  one year of experience.  Job # 21227


Hourly rate: $26.03/hr

Schedule:  Tuesday through Saturday, 7:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. (Sunday and Monday off)

MIT will conduct a background check (including checking criminal records) for finalists. For current MIT SEIU members, this background check will be done for finalists who are bidding for a promotion or for a voluntary transfer to another classification unit.
