Posting Number PG192127TMPosition Number 24CAC22Position Type TemporaryEssential Job Duties The NC State College Advising Corps (CAC) is a nonprofit college access program and AmeriCorps program that aims to increase the postsecondary enrollment for low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students in North Carolina. NC State CAC recruits recent college graduates to serve as college advisers in under-resourced high schools across the state. By placing college advisers into rural high schools, our program is dedicated to closing the gap in college attainment and ensuring all North Carolina students have access to higher education.
Essential Job Duties College advisers serve in a partner high school to increase the postsecondary enrollment among all students. College advisers: - Provide one-on-one admissions and financial-aid advising to any student or family seeking assistance
- Organize group events that encourage students and their families to consider, plan for, and apply to colleges and universities
- Establish productive and strategic relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers within the partner school
- Enhance visibility of the role through school and community outreach
- Assist in the efforts of other NC State college adviser(s) within the service area
- Document and analyze student interactions to assist in the assessment and long-term sustainability of the program
- Maintain expertise in admissions and financial aid advising
- Coordinate with college admissions representatives to support students and facilitate college visits
Additional details. College Advising Corps advisers: - Report to NC State-based program staff, as well as a high school-based onsite supervisors
- Participate in a 4-week paid training (in-person or virtual) during the summer and ongoing professional development throughout the school year
- Participate in ongoing training and policies related to AmeriCorps
- Commit to one academic year (11 months) of service with a preferred two-year commitment if mutually agreed upon by the program staff and the adviser.
- Must be able to relocate to the service area and be involved in the surrounding community

The 1700 hours is fully integrated in the day-to-day responsibilities of the position. AmeriCorps College Advisers who complete 1700 hours of service with satisfactory service performance are eligible for the Segal Education Award totaling $6,495.
