Nature of Work

The Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) has an opening for a part-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Clinical Teaching Track and Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency and Fellowship Director.

The Assistant Professor, Clinical Teaching Track, at the Colorado School of Public Health, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, is committed to an academic career in the field of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. The incumbent is board certified in Occupational and Environmental Medicine with qualifications to lead our Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency Training Program and Occupational Medicine Fellowship. The incumbent will participate as a faculty member of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and the Center for Health, Work & Environment’s Mountain and Plains Education and Research Center, contribute to the diversity of our faculty, and has expertise in cross-disciplinary teaching in the areas of Occupational Safety and Health and Total Worker Health. The incumbent will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and effective mentoring of the next generation of leaders in the field of Occupational Medicine and, more broadly, in the fields of Environmental and Occupational Health, Safety, and Well-being.

This is a 12-month appointment at 0.3 FTE. It may be possible to increase this FTE with additional teaching responsibilities and/or external funding.

The incumbent will have the ability to assume leadership of the residency program, to contribute to the teaching mission of the Department, and to contribute to clinical activities as part of maintenance of their credentials. Excellent collaboration opportunities exist within the department and our cross-disciplinary Center for Health, Work and Environment, as well as throughout the School of Public Health, CU School of Medicine, CU School of Pharmacy, University of Colorado Denver Auraria and CU Boulder Campuses, Colorado State University, National Jewish Health, Denver Health and Hospital Authority, and with the many Federal Partners with regional headquarters in the Denver metropolitan area.

The ColoradoSPH was formed collaboratively by the University of Colorado Denver, Colorado State University and the University of Northern Colorado. The ColoradoSPH serves the Rocky Mountain Region by providing training, innovative research and community service. Supervision Received

The incumbent will report to the Chair of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and to the Director of the Center for Health, Work and Environment.

Supervision Exercised

Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residents and Fellows. The incumbent may also supervise research assistants, student workers, postdoctoral fellows and/or junior faculty, Graduate Medical Education Program Coordinator, and the Associate Residency/Fellowship Director.

  • Leadership of the residency and fellowship program
  • Contribution to the teaching mission of the Department
  • Participation in the leadership, educational and outreach activities of our two NIOSH-funded Centers
  • Delegation and collaboration with the Associate Residency/Fellowship Director
  • Participation on applied research and public health practice projects
  • Provide Academic Service to the Department, Center for Health, Work & Environment, School, and University
  • Perform program director duties under agreement with the Department of Family Medicine, SOM

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Administrative and teaching experience and/or aptitude in Environmental or Occupational Medicine and related disciplines. Skills and abilities required to organize and direct residency and fellowship program and comply with accreditation requirements.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position has been established at $170,000 to $185,000 for 1.0 FTE.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, rank, internal equity, experience, education, and area of expertise. The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • Board-certified in Occupational and Environmental Medicine
  • Demonstrated experience in resident practicum training
  • Clinical experience in occupational medicine practice

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to provide occupational health consultation to industry, labor, government
  • Ability to provide occupational medicine clinical supervision for residents and fellows
  • Ability to establish an extramurally funded public health practice program
  • Ability to design and execute professional education (continuing education) trainings in-person and online
