Summary

We are looking for a Research Technician to act as the manager for our Functional Assessment Core. The Functional Assessment Core (FAC) oversees equipment for the study of rodent visual function and morphology as part of an ongoing Vision Research Center. Located in the Kellogg Eye Center, Brehm Tower of the University of Michigan, we are looking for a highly motivated individual able to work independently to manage an optical coherence tomography, electro-retinogram, pupillometer and other devices used for assessing visual function in rodents.

Responsibilities*

The responsibilities include: perform visual function tests in laboratory animals (mice and rats); provide training on use of equipment for visual functional and morphological analysis; collect and analyze data; manage the Core calendar and performance reports.

Required Qualifications*

 Associate Level:

  • HS Diploma or Assoc Degree and 0-1 year experience.
  • Experience working with mice and rats is required.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint is also needed.

Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in science with knowledge of cell biology, biochemistry, laboratory instrumentation and microscopy.
  • Previous laboratory research experience (minimum of 1 years) with animal and cellular models.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Highly motivated and responsible individual with ability to work with some independence.

Senior Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in science with knowledge of cell biology, biochemistry, laboratory instrumentation and microscopy.
  • Previous laboratory research experience (minimum of 1-2 years) with animal and cellular models.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Highly motivated and responsible individual with ability to work with some independence.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biology or related major.  
  • Previous experience in visual assessment a plus but not required. Ability to manage time efficiently, communicate with multiple laboratories, collect and present data are necessary skill set.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
