This department provides an academic base for teacher-scientists employed by the School of Medicine at East Carolina University in the disciplines of microbiology, immunology, molecular biology and other related disciplines. The department provides instruction to medical students, dental students, and graduate students. The department also provides guidance and research experience to graduate students seeking advanced degrees in microbiology and immunology. The department also offers a postdoctoral research training program. The department supports an array of faculty (16)-directed research programs of which many are supported by extramural grants and/or contracts. The department provides service to the school, university, state, nation, and to the profession by activities of faculty members on committees, study sections, in professional organizations, as consultants, and through other activities.
| Job Duties | The primary purpose of this position is to provide supervision of technical staff and students in the laboratory. In addition, this position requires the ability to design and implement independent research, direct and supervise graduate student research, present data at laboratory meetings, as well as local and national scientific meetings, and write manuscripts on scientific results for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. These duties are in addition to technical support and aid in management of a research laboratory within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the School of Medicine at East Carolina University. This level of management includes planning, prioritizing, scheduling, and conducting research in the area of virology, immunology, biochemistry, animal husbandry, and molecular biology. In addition, this position will require that the individual compile and evaluate data and participate in the preparation of extramural grant applications.
| Minimum Education/Experience | Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
