FAQ Job Title Fire Protection Alarm System TechnicianJob Description The primary function of the Fire Alarm Technician is to assume the responsibility for analyzing, testing, repairing and maintaining all campus-wide fire alarm systems and associated devices within all buildings. Any repairs or tests performed are in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines, fire code and University adopted test protocol and schedules. Along with fire system testing and repair, the fire alarm technician will assist with construction related disabling and re-enabling of devices, circuits and panel functions. The technician may be called to respond during working hours as a part of the emergency response team to staff the panel during a fire alarm. This position will require independent trouble shooting and repair skills as well as working from verbal instruction to resolve fire alarm and fire network problems as well as interfacing with contract vendors to diagnose and repair panel or field device problems. Overtime will be required on assignments and projects that require repair after hours. On-campus support for football and other large scale events will also be required. The fire alarm technician is required to carry a campus cell phone to support these activities. This position will work a day shift with hours set by the Notre Dame Fire Department Chief and designated supervisor.
This position shall be considered University critical staffing. Minimum Qualifications 7 or more years experience with low voltage/ fire alarm panel repair, programming, network experience, multiple styles of fire alarm panels.
Associate’s degree or completion of technical school training will be considered. Preferred Qualifications NICET Certification.
Manufacturer qualifications on Simplex, Siemens and Notifier alarm systems.
Must be mechanically inclined.
