The Ambulatory Care RN is accountable for the delivery of direct patient care including patient education and the management of telephone triage in a clinical setting. 

The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family; assesses the needs of the patient undergoing surgical/diagnostic/therapeutic procedures; plans, implements, and evaluates patient care; and teaches patients, families, orients colleagues and peers.

Accountable for the delivery of direct patient care including patient education, symptom management, and telephone triage in a clinical ambulatory care setting to adult bone marrow transplant and leukemia patients. 

Supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family; assesses the needs of the patient undergoing surgical/diagnostic/therapeutic procedures; plans, implements, and evaluates patient care; and teaches patients, families, orients colleagues and peers.  

Candidate will provide coverage within two nursing work teams in the BMT and Leukemia clinics.

The candidate must have demonstrated the following in his/her current position:

Utilizes critical thinking skills to recognize and solve patient problems. 

Utilizes the nursing process and nursing standards to prevent or manage actual/potential patient problems in the clinical oncology setting.

Works with the various Cancer Center associates to ensure patients are scheduled appropriately.

Responds to voice mail and electronic communication with the patients and colleagues in a timely manner.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period.

Required Qualifications*

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse to practice in the State of Michigan. Eighteen (18) months or more of acute care RN. The preferred candidate will have Hematology/Oncology RN experience NOTE: Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Candidates who are not qualified will not be interviewed.

Desired Qualifications*

One (1) or more years recent Ambulatory Care and/or BMT nursing experience.  OCN or BMTCN certification ONS local and national membership  BSN preferred Demonstrated ability to practice independently, set goals, promote teamwork, cross cover within clinical area, coordinate and perform multiple activities and problem solve as measured by interview, references and performance evaluations.  Demonstrated ability to set and implement priorities, organize and delegate effectively and efficiently as evidenced by interview, references and performance evaluations.  Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate well with others (including peers) as evidenced by interview, references and performance evaluations.  Demonstrated abilities in interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills and problem solving skills within all levels of the health care team, as evidenced by documentation, interviews, references, and performance evaluations.  Proven self directive ability with initiative, and creativity as evidenced byinterview, references and performance evaluations. 

Work Schedule

Hours: 40 hrs per week  Shift: Days, Mon – Fri, flexibility in hours needed  Location: C&W Adult Bone Marrow Transplant & Leukemia Clinic 

All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.

Additional Information

This is a multi-unit RN position, which involves staffing assignments on multiple units, per the agreement with UMPNC, Section H, page 55, Multi-Unit Positions.

Units for this position include C&W Adult BMT & Leukemia Clinics, Rogel Cancer Center Infusion and Taubman Center Infusion.  The home unit will be C&W Adult BMT & Leukemia Clinics; holidays and PTO will be determined from the home unit.

The RN can be scheduled on both units, based on the unit's staffing needs and will be expected to staff on either unit, as needed. 

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
