Summer AmeriCorps position with the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) Preschool Program
Job Description
The RCLC Early Childhood Program offers a six-week Summer Preschool Program for children, ages 3-5, five days per week. A majority of the children enrolled are English Language Learners. This program aims to expand language and literacy experience for parents and children.
AmeriCorps Position Summary:
1. The AmeriCorps member will assist with planning and implementation of the six-week preschool summer program. The program runs from 8:30am-2:30pm, Monday-Friday.
2. The AmeriCorps member will assist the Program Director, Preschool Teacher and full-time AmeriCorps member to plan and implement parent-child activities, such as field trips, and expand program outreach to include a wider range of families and children.
Specific Responsibilities include:
• Assist with development and implementation of the RCLC Summer Preschool Program. This includes: recruiting participants, curriculum planning, interacting with children, communicating with parents, and record-keeping.
• Comply with and implement all COVID-related health and safety procedures when at the RCLC, and assist children to do the same
• Document activities through photographs and text, and submit information regularly to the RCLC web site and Facebook page.
• Oversee and coordinate special projects as requested
• Attend AmeriCorps team meetings/trainings at the RCLC.
There are two summer AmeriCorps positions available with the RCLC Preschool— minimum-time and quarter-time.
A minimum-time AmeriCorps member must complete 300 hours of service by the end of the summer. On completion of the 300 hours, the member will receive an education award.
A quarter-time AmeriCorps member must complete 450 hours of service by the end of the summer. On completion of the 450 hours, the member will receive an education award.
Compensation for the Minimum-Time member is as follows:
Living Allowance: $664 per month (May-July)
Education Award $1,342 on completion of 300 service hours.
Compensation for the Quarter-Time member is as follows:
Living Allowance: $1411 per month (May-July)
Education Award $1,678 on completion of 450 service hours.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or a lawful permanent resident alien.
Reliable transportation is a plus.
Additional Qualifications include:
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Interest in education, working with at-risk youth, and community development.
- Public speaking and the ability to teach/train others.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and some on-line systems.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work in a variety of settings.
- Sensitivity, compassion, and listening skills required to work with a diverse audience including: RCLC staff, volunteers, fellow AmeriCorps members, Notre Dame and community partners, RCLC participants (ranging in age from early childhood through senior citizens), neighborhood residents, and families of youth participants.
