| Posting Summary | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Director for Industry Engagement for the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS)- Dean’s Office. Reporting directly to the School’s Executive Vice Dean, the Director for Industry Engagement is charged with building a portfolio of programs to connect students and mentoring faculty with start-ups, small and mid-size business, NGOs and non-profit organizations, and/or large corporations across all business and industry sectors. The Director will be a dynamic, highly visible leader charged with working in concert with School leadership to establish an integrated strategic plan for a holistic Industry Engagement (IE) approach that will support, coordinate and advance initiatives aimed at establishing and enhancing industry and other external partnerships. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Oversees assessments of existing engagement opportunities at the School, with departments or at Centers, with the aim of defining an operational model to support near and long-term engagement objectives which are tied to School priorities.
- Assesses existing workstreams and creates and operationalizes new workstreams and management tools that will develop internal IE talent and allow matrixed teams to meet IE objectives. These workstreams are expected to develop with other “industry facing” units, including but not limited to: the Office of Research and Economic Development, Career Services, the Foundation/Development units, and the Division of Continuing Studies. Most important, these workstreams must tie together School leadership, faculty and key administrative staff.
- Works collaboratively with the School’s Development, Communication & Marketing, and Alumni Relations team to build sustained outreach to our external communities.
- Designs and implements systems to support a centralized IE program for the School that is measurable and stakeholder-centric.
- Secures funding necessary to build infrastructure to support IE programs/activities.
- Reports on IE activities and progress.
- Tracks progress against agreed objectives.
- Modifies programs based upon feedback from stakeholders.

| COVID-19 Immunization Requirement | Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience | - Bachelor’s Degree.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience.
| Certifications/Licenses | - Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.
| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | - Extensive industry engagement experience in an academic setting comprising: i) academic technology transfer with demonstrated ability to structure and negotiate patent licenses, sponsored research agreements, collaboration agreements, option/evaluation/materials transfer agreements, start-ups; ii) demonstrable understanding of discovery and commercial-stage firms with ability to define and execute a business development strategy that includes intelligence/scouting initiatives, product licensing, divestment/royalty monetization, exit strategies, new business/product assessment, and alliance management.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervisory and management capabilities, including extensive experience assembling and managing cross-functional teams comprised of PhD/MD/JD/MBA level professionals.
- Highly self-motivated professional with exceptional leadership, communication and negotiating skills.
- Demonstrated ability to structure, negotiate and close complex business deals.
- Effective communication skills to convey a consistent IE vision to internal and external constituents.
- Ability to interact effectively in both academic and corporate cultures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment; to work under pressure with tight deadlines.

- Direct experience with product development teams.
| Equipment Utilized | - Utilizes Excel, Word, SalesForce, Access, Word, Cornerstone, Oracle financial management and reporting systems, RAPSS, eCert, Expense Reimbursement system, and a variety of SAS online systems.
| Physical Demands and Work Environment | - The demands upon this position are extraordinary, due to the size and nature of the departments, it various Centers, multidisciplinary activities and multi-campus facilities.
- Ability to walk up and down the stairs.
| Special Conditions | - Will require regular travel to Rutgers University – New Brunswick campuses and occasional travel in and out of state.
