Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Associate Dean is responsible for the overall direction and management of student affairs departments and services that directly impact the co-curricular life of Rutgers University-Newark students. Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following. · Provides vision and leadership in establishing and maintaining a developmental student life experience for Rutgers University-Newark students; · Supervises Student Life and Leadership, International Student & Scholar Services, Veteran Affairs, the Intercultural Resource Center and the Office of New Student and Family Programs; · Supports the work of the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs/Dean of Students and provides leadership in the absence of the Assistant Vice Chancellor/Dean.

| COVID-19 Immunization Requirement | Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience | Requires a master’s degree in an academic discipline, higher education administration, student development, counseling, or related field; and a minimum of five years of directly-related experience of increasing responsibility in a leadership or managerial role that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of strategic planning, management, team-building, leadership skills, fiscal management, and best practices research. Also requires excellent communication skills and computer literacy.

| Preferred Qualifications | Knowledge: A working knowledge of Student Development Theory. (All decisions are made within the framework of a Student Development Philosophy.) A general understanding of Higher Education hierarchy, as well as its mission. An understanding of the history and nuances of diverse populations. Skills: To work within a budget. To supervise and motivate effectively and appropriately. To teach students while in daily contact. To write clear and concise correspondence and reports. To deal effectively and professionally with colleagues and superiors. To perform as a leader of a team. Must be able to make well thought out decisions. To facilitate difficult discussions related to personal identity. Abilities: To grasp new, detailed information quickly. To juggle multiple responsibilities at once. (The Incumbent functions not only as an administrator, but is available for phone call, questions from staff and students on a walk-in basis.) To function independently and with general guidance. Experience: Planning major events, managing large teams, facilities, and managing crises.
