Job Summary
The Staff Research Associate position is currently available in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in Quantitative Musculoskeletal Imaging Facility (QMIF) directed by the manager.
The QMIF is a research core that operates two high resolution peripheral quantitative CT (HR-pQCT) systems and a dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) system. The QMIF core needs a backup operator for HR-pQCT and DXA systems.
The candidate will operate the scanners, interact with clinical research coordinators and study participants, and prepare data reports, as needed, when the primary operator is unavailable.
Responsibilities will include HR-pQCT and DXA data acquisition, logging, processing and analysis. In addition, the candidate will work as part of a large team of clinical and research collaborators in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical imaging, interacting with clinical research coordinators, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and scientists with the department, as well as scientists and physicians from other departments.
Department Description
The Department of Radiology is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) generating more than $70 million in professional fee revenues each year, and annual grant awards of $40-60 million. The mission of the Department includes research, teaching, and patient care. The Department operates across six sites in San Francisco. Major activities of the department include general Radiology, Mammography, Interventional Radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine.
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Experience operating a DXA system
- Strong communication skills
- Experience interacting with research study participants
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating a HR-pQCT system
- Experience in HR-pQCT image processing and analysis
License/Certification
- Limited X-ray technician certification / DXA operator license
