Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III in Cancer Pharmacology at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist III position, under direction of the Principal Investigator, is to assist with the organization, daily operation, research, and administrative duties in the laboratory. This includes designing and executing cutting edge experiments in understanding cell signaling in cancer biology and therapies as directed by the Principal Investigator.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • As assigned, carries out various technical and research operations in the areas of molecular and cell biology, and cancer pharmacology. Demonstrates hands-on knowledge and experience of hydrodynamic mouse liver tumor models, cell culture, molecular cloning, protein expression, kinase assays, drug response assays, and immunological techniques (immunoprecipitation, immunoblot, immunofluorescence, proximity ligation assay).
  • Assists with routine research laboratory projects as directed by the Principal Investigator.
  • Assists with the training and mentoring of all new personnel in the lab (students, postdocs, technicians, etc).
  • Develops and implements new lab protocols.
  • Troubleshoots technical protocols.
  • Demonstrates experience in the preparation of grant applications for the funding of research activities.
  • Compiles and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Assists Principal Investigator in routine maintenance of laboratory equipment as directed.
  • Assists in shipping and receiving research specimens.
  • Helps to oversee laboratory space and assists with future equipment and space planning needs.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.  Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility .  Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine .  Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of research experience in regulation of chromatin remodeling in liver tumorigenesis and anticancer drug therapy, or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated accomplishments in relevant research with first author publications in peer-reviewed international journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize assigned laboratory work and develop effective work methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow laboratory safety policies and perform laboratory procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Chemistry or related field.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Laboratory environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs, and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
