Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Grants Facilitator in the Office of Research Administration at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The purpose of this position is to assist faculty in acquiring external sponsors to financially support their research programs. The primary responsibilities are compiling complex multi-project grant applications, completing the administrative grant application documents, and ensuring timely submission of grants and contracts to respective agencies in accordance with their application rules and regulations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Assists faculty in identifying appropriate potential funding sources for their research.
  • Provides advice and assistance to faculty on proposal content and presentation.
  • Assists in development and editing successful proposals in accordance with each grant-making organization’s exact guidelines and requirements.
  • Provides faculty with a variety of resources and information to help create/write application sections (as templates or
    for single use).
  • Provides faculty timely advise and information on funding requirements and procedures.
  • Acquires and maintains sound knowledge and understanding of CINJ and uses that knowledge and understanding to better comprehend projects and programs for which grants will be sought.
  • Surveys faculty to maintain current data on research interests.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement

Rutgers University requires all new employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the employee a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of a vaccine approved or authorized for emergency use in the United States or a vaccine that has been listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization. Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine. Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree.
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in research administration particularly in higher education.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong writing, communication skills, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of principles and procedures involved in processing grant application.
  • A working knowledge of agency rules and regulations.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work under pressure to prioritize and to make logical decisions
    based on available information.
  • Effective oral and superior written communications skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to interact with all staff in a positive and motivated style.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to solicit cooperation from staff in achieving timelines and a uniform standard of values and quality is necessary.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality, remain open to others’ ideas and exhibit willingness to try new things.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to interpret sometimes complex and/or contradictory grant application regulations and deal effectively with ambiguity.
  • Time management and efficiency skills are critical
    to this position.
  • Must have ability to meet deadlines and handle several complex projects at once in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of stress and periodic long hours are required due to deadline driven workload.
  • Must be articulate, courteous, and flexible.
  • Must have proven skills in implementation of actionable initiatives and possess a substantive ability to foster team work and
    collaboration across the academic landscape, including both faculty and research administration.
  • Must have the ability to drive change and deliver results, anticipate problems, and initiate new and effective ways of achieving goals while eliminating bureaucracy and striving for brevity, simplicity, and clarity.
  • Specific tactical skills required include grant writing and grant support functions.
  • Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local government rules and regulations concerning grant and contract administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of various computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have advanced understanding of medical terminology, biology, chemistry, and biomedical research.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD degree.
