Job Description: |
Assists faculty, graduate students, and post-doctoral associates in implementing experimental protocols, data collection, and allocating experimental animals to appropriate treatments according to the research plan determined in conjunction with the faculty supervisor. The research effort includes numerous projects at multiple locations throughout the state. Conduct regularly scheduled research planning discussions with supervisor and researchers. Supervise OPS personnel as needed to conduct research protocols.
Oversee the maintenance and construction of fences, feeders, irrigation systems, and other facilities according to the research protocol. Carry out cultivating, fertilizing, irrigating, planting, weed control, and harvesting operations in accordance with the research plan developed in discussions with the faculty supervisor.
Responsible for coordinating and managing all farm equipment by providing routine preventive maintenance, making necessary repairs, and maintaining accurate vehicle log sheets. Equipment should be in “ready-to-use condition” at all times. Operates all farm equipment as necessary in a safe and responsible manner. Maintains FEFL roadways and grounds by moving and performing other needed operations. Keeps building and grounds orderly. Orders supplies within the guidelines established at the unit, and travels to pick up and deliver equipment and supplies.
Feed, weigh, and care for experimental animals. Acts independently to minimize damage to property or cattle by fire, frost, wild animals or another emergency. Other special assignments as needed.
