JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: This position ensures compliance with university policy and procedure and will exercise independent judgment in the resolution of human resource and payroll issues as well as other duties as assigned. This position is the first line of communication for HR/Payroll matters and assist in hire/term, PIN, posting, serve as POC and liaison to HR for the Department of Surgery. Works with the Director, Postdoctoral Fellows, faculty, staff, students, volunteers, and affiliates to ensure HR matters are handled confidentially and with a customer friendly attitude.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Serves as the Primary point of contact for employees and administrative offices regarding payroll and hiring processes.
Coordinates and manages the hiring processes for staff, post docs, and faculty in the departments within Surgery.
Advises Surgery department on Human Resources & payroll policies and procedures.
Assures that employees for the departments within the Surgery are on-boarded properly and performs all monthly and biweekly payroll activities.
Generates, collects and enters time sheets for biweekly and monthly personnel.
Processes promotions, transfers, reclassifications, salary increases, additional pay increases, and various payments.
Prepares and processes new position requests and employee information.
Assists Post Docs with Visa applications, monitors expiration dates, and processes renewals.
Collaborates with other General Surgery staff as well as Human Resources, Administrative Offices, faculty and chairs to perform day-to-day operations.
Assists with the preparation of position descriptions and staff evaluation process.
Serves as liaison between Human Resources and hiring manager to facilitate application review, the interview process, and documentation of selected candidate.
Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary supporting the function of the Surgery department.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration or related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of related experience as indicated above; OR combination of related education and work experience to equal five (5) years. Progressive administrative experience, to include higher education is preferred. Experience in SAP and compliance related to regulatory agencies and UTHSC hiring policies and procedures preferred. Computer experience and financial spreadsheets including Excel. Must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
