ORGANIZATION

Leading Educators (LE) is a national nonprofit committed to ensuring that all students have access to excellent and equitable teaching every day. Educational equity starts with creating consistently excellent learning experiences from classroom to classroom so every student has the opportunity to reach college and career readiness. Alongside school system leaders, we create the conditions and structures for teachers to continuously and collaboratively build skill and knowledge in mathematics and ELA through the implementation of shifts- and standards-aligned curriculum. POSITION

The Deputy Chief of Networks is an essential leadership role for our organization and 60+ member Networks Team. By 2025, our strategic plan lays out a charge to double the number of students we reach to 2.5 million students, or roughly 5% of US students. This role will be essential in ensuring that we have efficient learning, continuous improvement, knowledge management and implementation structures to support Program Teams during this time of expansion. The Deputy Chief reports to the Chief of Networks and manages the Network Support team. As a member of the Leadership Team, this person will be involved in many cross-team projects that impact the Network teams which will vary based on the evolving needs of students, teachers, partners, and teammates. For example, in the coming year, a few projects the Deputy Chief and the Network Support team will lead include:

  • Defining the vision of impactful work and leadership for each of the roles on our program team and then building the collaboration and learning systems to ensure all teammates reach this vision of success in service of the students, teachers, and leaders they support.

  • Working with leaders across teams to build a library of tools and a series of learning experiences aligned to our system conditions. Codifying best practices around client engagement in a consultative organization.

  • Collaborating internally and externally with a diverse group of teams to identify best practices and innovations happening within networks that we should scale to meet unmet needs of the field.

This role is an exciting opportunity for a systems builder with experience leading large and layered teams, a passion for coaching and developing others, strong strategic thinking skills, and an interest in helping to drive system-wide, catalytic improvements in K-12 education.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leads Strategy for System Conditions and Client Engagement

  • Collaborate across internal teams and projects to continuously improve and refine client management approach

  • Establish Vision of Excellent Client Management with an arc of learning to support staff in applying the various phases of the vision.

  • Curate a bank of resources pulling artifacts from across projects to align on System Conditions and train staff on how to leverage the resource with partners to have a comprehensive aligned professional learning strategy

  • Collaborate with Data and Evaluation to articulate how we will measure improvement in system conditions across projects

Organizational Development and Learning

  • Build, manage, set vision and lead a high-performing Network Support Team and ensure a strong and inclusive culture

  • In collaboration with the People Team lead an outcomes focused job-specific onboarding experiences and role-alike learning spaces

  • Lead cross-Network learning spaces for Senior Directors and Managing Directors, primarily focused on sharing bright spot approaches, identifying opportunities for efficiency and shared ownership, disseminating best practices around how we successfully partner with systems leaders

  • Directly manage (1-2) Managing Directors to effectively coach and develop their Network team members to meet their goals with district partners, and help strengthen their competencies around district engagement

Telling our Story of Impact through Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with Data and Evaluation to help tell our story of impact internally externally across all projects the organization and externally with our partners

  • Collaborate with Organizational Effectiveness to monitor, and refine the Network knowledge base and develop systems for cross-network goal setting and monitoring

  • Regularly review, analyze, and monitor program impact data to evaluate strategy, capacity needs, and resource allocation across projects

  • Lead the Network support to develop structures and utilize data, artifacts, and storytelling to uncover success stories, and lessons learned to add to knowledge base.

  • Collaborate with Program Strategy to inform LE's innovation agenda, highlight key areas of need and opportunities for growth, and pilot and scale new offerings.

  • Serve as a liaison between Program Strategy, Data and Evaluation, and Project teams connecting workstreams and priorities to ensure alignment of communication and mitigate siloed infrastructure

Organizational Leadership

  • In collaboration with the Leadership Team, contribute to the organization’s culture through the development of policies and procedures that accelerate innovation, help ensure the retention, productivity and satisfaction of employees, and foster the long term sustainability and health of our organization

  • Participate in partner engagement and partnership development and identification opportunities in collaboration with our External Relations Team and Partnership Team.

  • Serve as peer and thought partner to most senior decision makers for partnerships (CAO, Superintendent, Chief of Teaching and Learning, Philanthropic leaders, state agencies etc.)

REQUIREMENTS TO BE HIRED FOR THE ROLE:

  • Leading Educators requires that all employees are fully vaccinated (includes a booster dose at least 5 months after the last dose in the primary series) against COVID-19, unless an accommodation has been approved. New hires must show proof of being fully vaccinated by the end of the first month of employment.

  • Candidates must be able to travel, unless an accommodation has been approved. For this role, up to 40% national travel (at least 1 trip a month, if not more) for things like regional programming, Leadership Team retreats, org wide retreats, team collaboration, and learning opportunities required.

  • Candidates must:

  • Have significant leadership experience in K-12 education or non profit sector with a proven track record of managing and coaching teams to ambitious results, identifying system barriers, creating solutions to address gaps and managing through layers of an organization

  • Be able to build strong and trusting relationships quickly and a track record of improvement of systems through advising and consulting that results in improved student outcome

  • Demonstrate success in coaching managers to build strong team cultures virtually and effectively develop their team members

  • Have a deep commitment to directly challenging historical inequity and to dismantling systemic racism, including experience coaching and developing others in this work.

  • Have excellent judgment and strong critical thinking skills to identify problems and opportunities and generate effective next steps

  • Be able to lead through ambiguity, prioritize and execute effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

LOCATION

When not traveling (up to 40% national travel (at least 1 trip a month, if not more) for things like regional programming, Leadership Team retreats, org wide retreats, team collaboration, and learning opportunities required) the Deputy Chief of Networks will work from a home office that can be located anywhere in the US.


COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements and Travel

Leading Educators lives our value of prioritizing people, and puts the safety of our partners, our students, and our staff first. We know that in order for students to receive excellent and equitable education every day, their health and wellbeing must be prioritized. As of January 31st, 2022, Leading Educators requires that all employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless an accommodation has been approved. We define fully vaccinated as a booster dose at least 5 months after the primary dose in the primary series. Leading Educators will comply with applicable federal and state laws, as well as EEOC Guidance and will consider any requests for accommodations for medical, religious or as otherwise required by applicable law. New hires must show proof of being fully vaccinated by the end of the first month of employment.


COMPENSATION

If hired for this position, the compensation range for this position is between $131,852 and $224,148 annually. Compensation is competitive, commensurate with experience and in alignment with internal equity. Candidates, either newly hired or new to the role, can typically expect a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. In addition, Leading Educators offers a very generous benefits package including 100% paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for individual employees. Additional premium costs are covered 60% by Leading Educators for partners and dependents on medical, dental, and vision plans. We also offer a 4% matching 401k plan, Flexible Spending Accounts for medical, childcare and commuter expenses, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Benefits are valued at or above $9,000 for employees.

Additionally, Leading Educators offers generous time off with pay in order to support a sustainable high performance work culture. During the first three years of employment, full time staff accrue 22 days a year. Five additional days are accrued after the third and sixth year of employment. Leading Educators also offers 16 additional paid days off for various holidays, including three floating holidays staff may use at their discretion.
