Summary

The Department of Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) within the School of Public Health is looking for an experienced research administrator to join our administrative team. You will support a vibrant and diverse academic community of faculty, staff, research fellows and students. The research administrator coordinates a range of post-award research and financial management responsibilities for select departmental faculty and serves as backup for pre-award proposal submissions. EHS has a research portfolio with a variety of sponsors and varying levels of complexity.

Flexible Work Arrangements: you will be eligible for hybrid (both remote and on-campus) working.

Responsibilities*

Post-Award activities include:

  • Independently reconcile awards across sponsored research, cost share and general funds using M-Reports, Business Objects and other tools to ensure appropriate use of funds. Prepare monthly reports with revenues, encumbrances and projected balances. Provide faculty portfolio analysis and advise faculty on best practices for post-award management.
  • Setup new awards including sub-PG requests, subcontracts, consulting agreements and cost share.
  • Compile financial information to process transactions such as budget allocations, appointment change requests (PAR), journal entries and vouchers.
  • Review financial transactions for appropriateness and allowability.
  • Create and process post award change requests i.e., carryforward requests, no cost extensions.
  • Assist with Other Support documents and RPPR projections.
  • Manage standard reports and requests for financial information from sponsors, sponsored programs and subaccounts.
  • Perform required project closeout actions including review and resolution of UG and FSR reports. Monitor personnel project effort following university and sponsor policies.
  • Interpret and ensure ethical adherence to University, federal and other sponsor policies. Recommend possible courses of action to resolve concerns.

Pre-Award activities include:

  • Serve as department backup supporting faculty research proposal submissions to federal and non-federal sponsors.
  • Manage budget preparation and administrative portion of proposals, ensuring all sponsor and university guidelines and deadlines are met.
  • Support the internal routing process through eResearch to route the Proposal Approval Form (PAF) and proposals through institutional review. Review applications for compliance with sponsor, university, and department policies. Follow through when proposal changes are needed.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, with a minimum of 3 to 5 years for intermediate level and 5 to 7 years at senior level of progressively responsible experience in finance and research administration. Prior experience in an academic setting with contract and grant administration along with regulatory and compliance accounting requirements.
  • Knowledge of federal funding policies and procedures related to sponsored research. Demonstrated experience with financial review and analysis. Competent in developing and refining reports, along with experience in transactional processing of general financial activities; ability to work under pressure of deadlines and complete tasks on time.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including high level of accuracy and attention to detail while exercising good judgment. Work independently or collaboratively as a part of a team.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with business tools such as M-Pathways, Business Objects, MReports, eRPM and Concur.
  • Prior experience with federal funding agencies such as NIH suggested.
  • Knowledge of policies in the areas of sponsored projects, human resources, procurement and travel/hosting. Higher level knowledge of accounting principles and applications.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. The salary offered will commensurate with level of position. There are two levels possible - Intermediate and Senior.

Intermediate- $54,621- $67,473

Senior -$62,413- $73,428
