This is an internal search - the selected candidate must currently hold a tenured faculty position at the University of Michigan-Flint.  This posting is open until filled, interviews are ongoing.

The Director of the Accelerated Online Degree Completion (AODC) Program will report to the Office of the Provost.  This Directorship will be a 40% academic administrative appointment (funded by the Office of the Provost).

We are seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial and collaborative academic leader for the position of Director, Accelerated Online Degree Completion (AODC) Program. As the inaugural Director, this is an extraordinary opportunity to help build a new program that meets our future students’ needs and is responsive to the changing labor market in Michigan and beyond.  The selected candidate must be a current UM-Flint tenured faculty member at the University of Michigan-Flint who meets the required qualifications and has experience relevant to the job duties. The job duties will include but are not limited to:


  • Provide a clear vision and exhibit highly visible leadership for the AODC program, including supervision and shared supervision of staff who provide support to the AODC program.

  • Prepare and continuously mentor faculty participating in the AODC program so that our methods of teaching remain consistent with the principles of andragogy.

  • Develop, coordinate, review and communicate plans, policies, and assessments designed for student success in the AODC Program.

  • Coordinate and execute the assessment of student learning within the AODC program.

  • Be current in knowledge of the literature on innovative teaching and learning, particularly for the student populations that AODC serves.

  • Manage the AODC budget and planning process.


  • Communicate a clear vision and establish highly visible representation for the AODC program to external constituents.

  • Establish and expand relations with employer organizations to ensure the AODC program is cognizant of changes in the labor market and which skills are most in demand.

  • Develop and monitor effective strategies and tactics for recruitment, retention, persistence, and graduation.

  • Work in collaboration with the Office of Student Career Advancement and Success to ensure post-graduation support and placement.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with campus partners, including academic units, advisors, Student Success Center, Thompson Center for Learning and Teaching, Student Affairs, Enrollment Management, Registrar,  Financial Aid, and Marketing and Digital Strategies.

  • Explore the role off campus study and internships can serve in meeting the learning goals established for the program’s adult learners and facilitate participation if desirable.

  • Work collaboratively with such external partners as Michigan Works and Detroit Drives Degrees to ensure the AODC Program is marketed and advertised to the fullest extent possible.

Required Qualifications*

  • Understands and recognizes the benefits of an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning.

  • Experience with innovative approaches to pedagogy, scholarship, and curriculum development, and assessment.

  • Ability to shape a vision and mission for the AODC Program that reflects and extends UM-Flint’s mission.

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Commitment to inclusive excellence in shaping a diverse, lively, challenging, and transformational learning community.

  • Experience with marketing of academic programs and enrollment management strategies for adult learners, particularly to traditionally underserved populations.

  • Ability to attract and inspire faculty across the campus to expand Program curricula.

  • Ability to collaborate with student affairs staff to ensure student success.

  • Track record of fostering collaboration and lasting partnerships.

  • Experience managing a university unit budget.

  • Significant and accomplished teaching at UM-Flint.

  • Hold tenure at UM-Flint.
