If you are applying for the Professor rank, please provide the following materials

  • Evidence of teaching experience and performance:
    • Teaching statement.
    • Explanation of the teaching evaluation system and where the candidate ranks quantitatively in the system. Summaries of evaluations involving ratings as well as student comments can be included; similarly, summaries should be provided for peer evaluations and clinical evaluations, if forms are used for these.
  • Research statement (with description of the applicant’s program of research that includes a statement of potential impact of their work). 
  • Service statement.
  • Copy of doctoral degree and any licenses/certifications (if applicable).
  • A list of a minimum of three (3) professional references with relevant contact information.
  • Five (5) peer reviewed publications, with emphasis on the most recent or most representative.

If you are applying for the Clinical Professor rank, please provide the following materials

Responsibilities*

The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN), is seeking an outstanding senior-level career faculty candidate for the rank of professor or clinical professor, who is actively engaged in research to serve as Chair of the Department of Health Behavior and Biological Sciences. The successful candidate will also be the Rhetaugh G. Dumas Endowed Professor. We are looking for a highly productive faculty member who is energized about their science and enthusiastic about educating and mentoring others, serving in an administrative faculty role and has a demonstrated record of teaching, practice, and scholarship/research. The position will be a 12-month appointment.

The Chair of the Department of Health Behavior and Biological Sciences will be responsible for implementation of policies and procedures; lead curriculum, academic administration, student recruitment and progression of students, as well as other program needs; be responsible for the APRN programs and specialty areas; developing research, education, practice programs in the department; the evaluation and accreditation of specialty graduate programs in the department; and integration of research/education/ practice to promote faculty development and excellence in faculty and student scholarship. The Chair will work closely with the Dean, Associate Deans for Practice, Professional Graduate Studies, Research and Faculty Development, and the Chair of the Systems, Populations and Leadership (the other department in UMSN) to develop, implement and monitor policies, practice and programs that advance the educational and research missions of the School.

It is anticipated that the position will start during the 2022-2023 academic year. We are soliciting applications from experienced educators and scholars who will blend their demonstrated teaching, practice, and scholarship experience. Applicants will be considered for the ranks of professor or clinical professor, dependent on experience and scholarly productivity. Required Qualifications*

The successful candidate will be a licensed RN, eligible for licensure in Michigan, with an earned doctorate in nursing or a related discipline. The following characteristics are desired:

  • An outstanding track record of expertise through grants, publications, mentoring and engagement in nursing science or a related health discipline.
  • A demonstrated record in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Engagement through grants, advances in faculty and student achievement, and expertise working with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge and experience in educational programs and training of graduate students and advanced mentoring of individuals (masters, PhD, post-doc, and faculty).
  • A successful record of academic leadership, management, effective public relations, and building a network of collaborations.
  • A strategic vision for short- and long-term development of the Department that supports the goals of UMSN and the University of Michigan, and reflects the future of the field.
  • Demonstrated success in the mentoring and training of junior faculty members in helping them to obtain grants/funding and achieve career growth.
  • A shared commitment to the Department’s core values of communication, collaboration, strength-based approaches, action, and social justice.
  • Experience in creating a collaborative, positive, productive, community-oriented, sustainable, and effective work environment for all personnel including faculty, staff, and students.
  • Prior to start date must be in compliance with all health requirements including standard precautions such as Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, orientations, licenses/certifications, policies and procedures both internal and external to the University for your assigned classroom(s) and/or clinical site(s) and/or research site(s).

Additional Qualifications if you are applying for the rank of Professor –

  • A sustained record of excellence in teaching, including experience with advanced students.
  • A sustained and growing record of scholarly eminence, which advances the frontier of knowledge.
  • A reputation among the candidate’s colleagues and peers throughout the nation and preferably internationally for outstanding and continuing achievements in their field of expertise.
  • A reputation, supported by documented external evaluation, which recognizes the presence of leadership and the quality of research activities, publications, and contributions to the profession in comparison with other professors.
  • A continuing record of recognized accomplishments in academic, professional and community service.

Additional Qualifications if you are applying for the rank of Clinical Professor –

  • A sustained record of excellence in clinically relevant teaching, including experience with advanced students.
  • Evidence of national and preferably international clinically relevant leadership and practice excellence.
  • Evidence of sustained national and preferably international clinical scholarship.
  • Evidence of national leadership in service to the profession and academic community.
