In the thick of this excellence is our team of Human Resources Partners who are the heart of the operation here at Michigan Medicine. As our department continues to grow, we invite you to grow with us! Reporting to the HR Manager, the Human Resources Business Partner will be responsible for:

  • Developing practical solutions that are responsive to the needs, responsibilities and objectives of assigned business areas. Business areas include: 
    • Inpatient Nursing
    • UMH clinical and hospital services
    • Adult hospital services
    • University of Michigan medical group including ambulatory care off sites
    • Research
    • Basic sciences
    • Shared services
  • Facilitates the development and implementation of people management and development practices, and jointly shares responsibility for goals and deliverables with customers.
  • Serves as an expert consultant to leadership on human resources related issues while also acting as an employee champion and change agent.
  • Communicates departmental needs to Michigan Medicine human resources department including developing integrated people solutions and anticipating HR-related needs within the business unit.
  • Formulates partnerships to deliver value-added services to leadership and employees in congruence with the business objectives of Michigan Medicine.
  • Maintains an effective level of business literacy as it relates to the assigned business unit’s financial position, culture, engagement, business objectives, and goals.  Understands managers’ operational work plans, departmental operations performance, and relevant HR metrics
  • Collaborates with other Michigan Medicine HRBPs in the delivery of integrated, customer-focused solutions and HR services.
  • Work with a specific service area across organizational segments.
  • Work with other HR teams such as compensation and labor relations to deliver strategic solutions to customer base
  • Work with service areas that cross organizational segments and encompass a mix of bargained and non-bargained for employees.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following concentrations: Human Resources Management, Business, Health Care Administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in HR or advising managers or working at a managerial level, preferably in a complex organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and judgement in matters of sensitive or confidential nature.
  • Knowledge of process improvement and lean concepts
  • Demonstrated labor and employee relations experience
  • Demonstrated compensation experience 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Academic health system experience
  • Other healthcare experience
  • HRCI and/or SHRM certification

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
