Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Coordinator in Cancer Health Equity and Engagement for Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Lab Manager, the Program Coordinator plans and coordinates the conduct of highly specialized and technical research for the cancer health equity research group. The Program Coordinator manages the research team within Cancer Health Equity &Engagement including, but not limited to, workflow, employee performance, training and development, and hiring/firing recommendations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Ensures complex research involving behavioral interventions (involving biospecimens, genetic information, and patient-reported data) and implementation science in socioeconomically disadvantaged and underserved racial/ethnic populations of New Jersey is administered as per study protocol, including accruing participants as per study deadline.
  • Coordinates all research activities, studies, and staffing needs with a solutions-oriented lens. Trains, supervises, evaluates, and/or disciplines subordinate staff. Conducts orientation and ensures the integration of new staff members into the Department and work unit. Coordinates schedules with research team and key stakeholders to ensure efficient performance of studies.
  • Recommends the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting, performance evaluations, transfers and/or disciplining of
    employees, as well as other personnel actions according to University policies and procedures.
  • Maintains time and attendance records, and coordinates schedules; conducts personnel evaluations in a timely
    manner. Interacts with the Department of Human Resources/Workforce Planning regarding personnel matters.
  • Provides internal management and consultative services to professional staff, program directors, and faculty, with
    respect to developing and carrying out proposals and objectives.
  • Develops and submits administrative plans and devises implementation and control procedures to ensure services
    are delivered efficiently and effectively. Generates study accrual reports and develops strategies to enhance participant recruitment.
  • Collaborates closely and communicates clearly (written/verbal) with interdisciplinary teams and other stakeholders at all levels, inside and outside the organization.
  • Prepares and maintains regulatory documentation, as required by the Institutional Review Board, Scientific Review Board, and grant funding agencies.
  • In conjunction with clinical research faculty, assists through learned approach in the coordination and preparation of grant reports for research program. Prepares reports containing findings, analysis, conclusion and recommendations (i.e. grants, narratives, position papers, etc.), as requested.
  • Assists in the preparation of budgets, as well as budget revisions, as required. Analyzes and interprets operating budgets to determine that all appropriate expenses are included. Manages budgets and maintains records of fiscal expenditures. Ensures all supplies are ready to use in studies and that inventories are stocked.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.  Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility .  Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine .  Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in public health, clinical or other health science or related field, plus three (3) years of research/program coordination experience.
  • Prior behavioral research experience with cancer patients
    and survivors. This experience may include clinical assessments, intervention delivery, mind-body exercise interventions, genetic risk communication interventions, motivational interviewing, and collection of biospecimens and patient-reported data.
  • Experience with IRB submissions and regulatory documentation.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Must have valid driver’s license and possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Available and willing to work 2 evenings per week until 8:30 PM if needed.
  • Travels to study sites to conduct trainings for staff members at
    those sites. Sites may include other cities in the U.S. (overnight travel may be necessary).
  • Effective oral and communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working
    knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous team supervision.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Working knowledge of SPSS or SAS programming and OnCORE.
  • Training certification.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Moderate noise.
