Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Researcher IV in the Schindler Lab at the Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey (HGINJ). The laboratory research is focused in the area of reproductive biology specifically in understanding how gametes in females are made using cellular and molecular biology techniques.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Breeding and genotyping for several transgenic lines.
  • Maintains lab inventories and supplies.
  • Orders lab supplies.
  • Maintains an accurate and detailed lab notebook.
  • Prepares common stock solutions.
  • Standard laboratory techniques including PCR, RNA isolation, RT-PCR, cloning, immunocytochemistry, oocyte/embryo collection and manipulation, and Western blot will be used to conduct bio-medically focused research. .

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.  Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility .  Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine .  Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.
  • A combination of two years college-level science curriculum plus two years relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests may be substituted for the degree.
  • An additional equivalent amount of college-level study in an appropriate science curriculum may be substituted for the experience in the above combination.
Certifications/Licenses
  • A valid driver’s license, plus two years driving experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be comfortable handling laboratory mice.
  • Knowledge of scientific empirical procedures.
  • Understands the fundamentals of the science.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents.
  • Perform basic scientific routines, protocols, and tests and articulate data to researchers.
  • Ability to group lead.
  • Participate in required occupational health and safety programs.
  • Must operate and maintain sophisticated equipment.
  • Ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience handling mice.
  • Basic molecular biology skills.
  • Prior laboratory experience.
Equipment Utilized
  • Must have basic understanding of genomic and cellular-related technologies.
  • Must have some understanding of basic data analysis techniques and software.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
Special Conditions
  • Occasional Holiday shifts may be required.
  • Will be required to participate in required occupational health and safety programs.
  • Regular workweek may include evening and/or weekend work.
  • Successful completion of the Rutgers’ Defensive Driving Course.
  • Clean driving record.
