Job Description
 

A postdoctoral position is available in the Dhillon research group in the Department of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology (NEP) at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Research projects are focused on cardiometabolic and immune health, gut microbiome, and omics techniques in the context of clinical nutrition and exercise interventions. As a postdoc in the Dhillon group, you will have the chance to establish your own systems and have a major impact in shaping the group’s culture.
Specific research directions for this position include effects of almond consumption on immune health and responsiveness, and role of dietary patterns on cardiometabolic outcomes and host-microbiome interactions. These projects involve collection and analysis of blood, stool, and adipose tissue from humans. The successful candidate will be responsible for submitting IRB applications, managing clinical studies, assisting with data collection, performing wet lab techniques, preparing manuscripts for publication, presenting research results at scientific meetings, and training students. Postdocs will receive training in advanced wet lab techniques, omics data analyses, and career development. Postdocs will also be encouraged to apply for external support from agencies such as National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, etc. as part of their training.


Qualifications
 

The successful candidate must have earned a PhD in Nutritional Sciences, Biological Sciences, or related disciplines by the time of appointment. 

Candidates will be evaluated on:
Experience in conducting nutrition clinical trials
Experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques
Expertise in statistical analyses of data
Familiarity with large biological data sets
Critical thinking, curiosity, and creativity in multidisciplinary research
Effective project and time management, mentorship, leadership, and interpersonal skills
Strong oral and written communication
