Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Accounting Manager II for the School of Engineering – Dean’s Office. Reporting to the Senior Director for Business Administration, this position is responsible for the management and supervision of daily accounting operations and financial reporting for the School of Engineering. This position will perform professional work requiring specialized knowledge in one or general knowledge in several fields of accounting/finance, and a solid understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, terminology, and applied bases in an area of specialization to support the academic and research operation of the school.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Provides resolutions to a diverse range of problems consistent with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the business unit and consistent with a comprehensive understanding of accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable regulations, and university policies and procedures.
  • Provides full oversight of sponsored and non-sponsored projects for the School of Engineering.
  • Provides independent accounting and budgeting support to non-sponsored and externally sponsored projects that includes but is not limited to full project reconciliation.
  • Ensures the accurate and timely creation of project accounts; processing of financial transactions; review and approval of purchasing in accordance with approved budgets; closes sponsored and non-sponsored projects in a timely matter.
  • Provides professional, prompt, and courteous service by resolving or directing staff members to resolve financial issues.
  • Analyzes and reviews financial data, prepares financial reports for both internal and external purposes.
  • Reviews and assists in preparing quarterly financial forecasts and development of supporting documents to related assumptions.
  • Ensures efficient and effective accounting operations and communication and flow of financial information to SoE’s academic departments and affiliated centers.
  • Ensures security of funds received and disbursed and tracks timely deposits/disbursements.
  • Advises and assists in preparation of operational budgets and/or miscellaneous funds as assigned.
  • Serves as the back-up for the Senior Director Business Administration as needed and performs other duties and tasks related to the financial reporting of the School of Engineering as assigned.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.  Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility .  Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine .  Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant grant accounting experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and a professional/courteous manner when working with both internal and external constituents.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills that allow for interpretation of budgetary, financial, and related management information.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience using spreadsheet, charting, and other software tools, such as Microsoft Word, Excel (pivot tables), Access, PowerPoint, Tableau.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present and clearly articulate analytical results and findings to a diverse set of people with varying skill sets.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, especially with regards to sensitive or confidential financial or organizational matters.
  • Ability to interact and work effectively with diverse faculty, administrators, research staff, and SoE’s senior management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration.
