The Labor Studies and Employment Relations department studies and teaches about all aspects of work and the employment relationships and in particular how collective representation and public policy can improve the well-being of workers. In addition, SMLR provides many continuing education and certificate programs taught by world-class researchers and expert practitioners.
| Posting Summary | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Student Counselor for the School of Management and Labor Relations. This position works independently to ensure successful execution of the Human Resource Management undergraduate program and related course scheduling, student advising, and overall execution for all programs and continued administrative follow-up. This position is critical to the continued success of the HRM undergraduate program. The HRM undergraduate program, which was launched in the spring 2009 semester with 4 classes, 241 registrants and 18 declared minors has rapidly grown to 40 classes, 1812 registrants, 620 declared majors and 290 declared minors by the Spring 2022 semester. Among the key duties of this position are:
- Provides administrative support to Undergraduate Program Director by organizing, coordinating, and supervising daily unit operations.
- Coordinates the administration of programs, projects, and/or processes.
- Creates informational materials; provides general research analysis, statistics, reports, and maintains critical student files.
- Works under general supervision, within established work parameters, with minimal supervision.
- Performs professional work that requires knowledge of University rules and regulations, general program coordination practices and the application and use of concepts, theories, and terminology of the organization.
- Works extensively with students to assure they are successfully meeting UG HRM program major and minor requirements.
- Coordinates with SAS, Career Services, and other SMLR and University offices to assure proper program success.

| COVID-19 Immunization Requirement | Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience | - Bachelor’s degree preferably in Human Resource Management or a related field, e.g., organizational behavior, I-O psychology or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of office administration, work organization, coordination, facilitation, bookkeeping, and report writing.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience in an administrative function, excellent communication skills and computer literacy.
