Job Summary
Working under the direction of the lab PI, and under supervision of a postdoctoral fellow, the research assistant will perform experimentation and data analysis to understand limb regeneration in axolotls. The project is specifically focused on understanding the role of vascular regeneration in limb regeneration.
Position Description
The RA will use a variety of molecular, genetic, and histological approaches to advance the research. The RA will be directly involved with the generation and characterization of novel transgenic lines of axolotls. They will also produce and use retroviruses for in vivo applications, including lineage tracing and in vivo, spatio-temporal gene modulation. The RA will be required to maintain core cell lines relevant to the lab’s work. The RA will also be involved in processing and organizing data derived from experiments and in experimental design. Some basic animal husbandry will be required for specific animals within experiments. Some weekend/holiday work will be required.
Basic Qualifications
At least two years of college level coursework in biology or closely related field.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree in biology or related field, as well as coursework or training having an emphasis on developmental biology, molecular biology, genetics, regenerative biology, stem cell biology, or related topics are strongly preferred. Cell culture experience is highly desirable. Preference will also be given to candidates who have some demonstrated aptitude for computational biology/bioinformatics.
Candidate must work well in a team, both in a small team and in a larger team. Candidate must have excellent communication skills. Candidate must be well-organized and willing to learn new techniques. Candidate should be motivated to identify process inefficiencies and take initiative to improve them. Candidate should be willing to devote at least two years to the position. Candidates possessing a master’s degree will also be considered.
Physical Requirements
May be required to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment. Required to work with a variety of hazardous materials under approved safety protocols.
Working Conditions
May be required to work with and handle animals.

Additional Information
This is a one-year term position with renewal dependent upon continuation of grant funding.
