Position Title Postdoctoral Fellow

Department of Counseling Psychology, Social Psychology and Counseling at Ball State University welcomes applications for one postdoctoral fellowship position in the Counseling Practicum Clinic (CPC).
The postdoctoral fellowship is a one-year full-time position starting August 2022, covering the Fall and Spring 2022-23 semesters and Summer 2023 sessions. Activities will include supervision of graduate student trainees’ treatment activities with adolescents and adults, teaching and training master’s level counseling students, direct clinical work billed through 3rd party payers, community outreach initiatives, program development, and grant research and writing. The Ball State University Counseling Practicum Clinic is housed within the College of Health’s Interprofessional Community Clinics and provides low-cost mental health services, including telehealth counseling, to Muncie and surrounding area community members and individuals across the state of Indiana.

Position Function
Assist in the oversight of programming and day-to-day operations of the Counseling Practicum Clinic, including but not limited to: provide clinical supervision of graduate-level students, provide didactics and training of graduate-level students, teach practicum-related course, provide direct clinical services, execute outreach efforts and perform research.
Minimum Education
  • Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree in counseling psychology, by date of employment
Minimum Experience
  • Teaching experience at the graduate level
  • Clinical supervision experience
  • Completion of an APPIC doctoral internship by date of employment, with an APA internship preferred

Minimum Other
Authorization to work in the US Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Duties & Responsibilities


Ranking 1
Job Duty
Provide clinical supervision of graduate-level students working in the CPC and CPC sanctioned activities. Supervision will include supervision of masters and doctoral-level graduate students in training. Supervision may be provided in individual and group formats.
Ranking 2
Job Duty
Provide oversight and training of graduate-level students enrolled in practicum-related courses associated with degree programs in the Department of Counseling Psychology, Social Psychology, and Counseling (CPSY).

Job Duty
Develop strategies and programming to improve training for students and service delivery for clients.
Ranking 4
Job Duty
Develop strategies, programming, and training targeted at increasing CPC graduate student trainees’ competency surrounding diversity, social justice, and multiculturalism.

Job Duty
Provide oversight and training on clinical documentation, electronic health records, and ensure compliance with CPC policies and procedures.

Job Duty
Provide didactics and training of graduate students enrolled in practicum-related courses in the CPSY department. Assist in teaching graduate-level practicum-related courses. Will be responsible for teaching at least one semester-long practicum-related course, but no more than two total courses throughout the appointment and no more than one course per semester.

Provide direct clinical services through the CPC. Services can include individual, family, group, and/or couples counseling services. The caseload will consist primarily of clients enrolled in insurance programs and services will be billed through those 3rd party payers.

Provide, oversee, and strengthen outreach efforts tailored to the community/community agencies to aid in the recruitment and retention of clients and supervisors.

Develop new and coordinate with established community partners to assess the needs of the community and develop programming and services to meet community mental health needs.

Job Duty
Assist with updating clinic materials including policy and procedures documentation, consents, brochures, advertisements, website, social media accounts, and other materials.

Research and apply for funding opportunities to support CPC activities, particularly clinical supervision and direct service care. Priority will be on investigating funding opportunities to support future post-doctoral fellowships.

Participate in weekly clinic administration and clinic staffing meetings.
