Montgomery Area Food Bank - Chief Executive Officer (CEO)



Description:
The Montgomery Area Food Bank (MAFB) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, devoted to combating hunger and food insecurity in the state of Alabama. Our service area encompasses more than half the counties in Alabama. We connect low-income, at-risk Alabamians with food and resources to satisfy emergent hunger needs, as well as educational material targeting healthier outcomes and self-sufficiency. We are a member of the national network of food banks, Feeding America®.

The Chief Executive Officer is solely responsible for the daily operations of the Montgomery Area Food Bank and its multiple Partner Distribution Organizations (PDOs). This position has the ultimate leadership responsibility of effectively planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the complete operations of the organization in accordance with the mission, established policies, goals, and financial budget set by the Board of Directors. The CEO mobilizes programs, manages fiscal and human resources to assure continuation of existing programs, as well as expansion and development of new programs as deemed necessary and/or approved by the Board of Directors. They ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations governing operations of a large, multi-county, multi-regional, multi-million-dollar food bank.


The Chief Executive Officer:
Provides leadership in the management and administration of the Food Bank’s goals and mission.

Makes recommendations to and implements the decisions of the Board of Directors regarding goals, objectives, policies, short- and long-range planning and fiscal viability.

Oversees hiring, termination and promotion of personnel to ensure compliance with the Personnel Committee policy, and state and federal regulations.

Serve as the lead fundraiser for the organization and leads initiatives to secure needed resources.

Develops and administers the annual budget as approved by the Board of Directors and supervises financial operations of the Food Bank.

Ensures complete financial records are maintained and reports regularly to the Board of Directors on the financial status of the Food Bank operation.

Solicits food from local, regional, and national sources and implements effective strategies for quality assurance, storage, inventory control and distribution of received food items.

Represents the Food Bank in the local community and broader Food Bank service area. Educates the service area about the Food Bank program.

Coordinates with Feeding America National Network, government agencies, local service providers and funding sources to promote the Food Bank.

Plans, coordinates, and controls the daily operations of the Food Bank to include finance, customer service, fund raising, volunteer services, food resources, warehousing, logistics and human resources.

Signs all contracts, providing recommendations to the Executive Committee for acquisitions or expenditures that are outside of the approved budget.

Responsible for interfacing with the principal constituency of the MAFB, including individual interactions, meetings, presentations, volunteer training, written correspondence, and internet communications.

Establishes performance targets for all programs and services and provides an accurate and effective analyses of the programs and services to the Board of Directors.

Responsible for the comprehensive management of all MAFB properties.

Makes a report on the state of affairs of the MAFB at each meeting of the board and the Executive Committee.

Supports all activities associated with the Board of Directors, including staffing for all Board and Committee meetings, meeting schedules, meeting minutes, locations, development of the agenda and meeting materials.


Qualifications

Required:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent of five years’ experience is required.

Demonstrated Leadership and management experience, preferably nonprofit management, to include supervision of staff, budget development and administration, and short-and long-term planning.

Possess proven leadership and people skills and the ability to work in harmony with the Board of Directors.

Demonstrated ability to manage a multi-million-dollar enterprise and staff.

Experience in public / community relations, including experience with print and electronic media, subject of press interviews, and as a public speaker.

Has a strong background in the areas of business administration and accounting/finance.

Demonstrates a high level of integrity and good character which is confirmed by the candidate’s references.

Desired:
Ideal candidate is currently serving as the CEO/Executive Director or is an executive of a successful organization that is comparable in the mission of human services.

Experience with a large food bank organization or wholesale food industry strongly preferred.

Additional education at the graduate level and/or experience in the study of community organizations, public or business administration is preferred.

Familiar with complex management of Grants and Donations for specific purposes.

Demonstrated ability and experience in raising funds for a non-profit organization or cause.

Other:
Occasional travel throughout the multi-county, central-Alabama region as needed to support the mission of the Montgomery Area Food Bank.
Once employed, must be a resident of the Montgomery, AL metro area.
