Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated postdoctoral candidate to join our team who is interested in applying cross-species multiomics approaches, including the powerful single cell or nuclei technology, to understand immunity to influenza infection and vaccination. Research in the Driver group is directed at using genetically edited pig models to study the development and maintenance of pulmonary immunity. In this regard, we are especially focused on uncovering how unconventional T cell types (including gamma delta T cells, CD1-restricted T cells, and MR1-restricted T cells) establish and maintain immune homeostasis in the respiratory tract as well as their contribution to immunity against influenza viruses and other pathogens that are important for swine and human health. Our group is dynamic and interactive, and most projects require close teamwork among senior scientists, postdocs, and staff promoting excellent opportunities for acquiring new skills..

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include producing, analyzing, and publishing high-throughput bioinformatics data generated on USDA and NIH funded projects using cutting-edge techniques. Our group has already produced single cell data sets that reveal novel immune cell type molecular circuitry. We have access to genomics and bioinformatics cores at University of Missouri as well as state-of-the-art genetically edited livestock models through the National Swine Research and Resource Center. The successful applicant will have the opportunity for further training in translational research, in vivo model systems, infectious disease model systems, and a range of immunological techniques

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate is expected to have a PhD by time of appointment

Candidates will be evaluated on:

Experience in bioinformatics and Next Generation Sequencing data analysis, knowledge of current best practices in epigenetics and transcriptomics, proficiency in UNIX command line and high-performance computing, script writing skills using at least one language (R, Python or Perl), and documented proficiency in verbal and written communication in English.

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of immunology, but it is not a requirement. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and have the capacity for independent evaluation of the literature. Prior knowledge in primary cell isolation, flow cytometry, imaging techniques, and single cell techniques would be an added benefit.
