Description of Work
The Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln invites applications for a research (75%), teaching (20%), and service (5%) tenure-track, academic year position at the level of Assistant Professor. The department seeks to add additional strength to its strategic priority areas in human health by hiring a highly motivated individual in the field of extracellular vesicles. We seek a scholar with a strong record in vesicle-, muscle-, and exercise-related research and a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals. The incumbent will become a member of the NIH-funded Nebraska Center for Obesity Prevention (https://cehs.unl.edu/npod/ ), which offers excellent research support, facilities and a vibrant research environment. Areas of study must include extracellular vesicles, combined with at least one of the following: muscle metabolism, regulation of energy metabolism, vesicle modifications and engineering, microbiome, bioinformatics, and cell signaling as they relate to human health and wellness.
Responsibilities will include:
  • Establish an internationally recognized research program using extracellular vesicle and metabolism approaches to assess and ameliorate disease risk.
  • Develop collaborative research with faculty at UNL and/or other institutions.
  • Seek out interdisciplinary research projects with investigators from UNL’s “Nebraska Center for the Prevention of Obesity Diseases through Dietary Molecules” and other centers at UNL or UNMC.
  • Establish an externally funded research program.
  • Publish research findings in top-tier, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research findings annually at scientific national or international meetings, and/or through invited presentations at research institutions.
  • Provide research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Develop and teach two courses related to extracellular vesicles, muscle, exercise, obesity, metabolic diseases and metabolism of nutrients and food compounds.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students and serve on graduate student committees.
  • Be available for presentations to professional organizations and the lay public.
  • Serve on department, college, IANR, and university committees.
  • Provide service to professional societies.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in biochemistry, biology, nutrition, exercise physiology, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of postdoctoral experience.
  • Expertise in extracellular vesicles, muscle and exercise.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Mammalian models and molecular biology techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Research in metabolic disease, nutrition, kinesiology or obesity.
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring in the field of metabolism.
