Keele University

Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences

School of Allied Health Professions

Professor of Rehabilitation – (Research or Education and Research)

Grade 10, starting salary £63,668 (depending on experience)

This new Professor of Rehabilitation post represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a dedicated group of over 45 academic staff of enthusiastic educators, researchers and scholars, in the growing School of Allied Health Professions (SAHP). The School is one of four in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and a contributor to the University research community.

We are looking to appoint a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered (or equivalent) allied health professional (AHP) to lead, and develop a growing research team in rehabilitation, as well as contribute to teaching strategically across the School’s curriculum. We are proud that 97% of Keele’s research is deemed to be world-leading, or of international importance (REF 2014). The post-holder's research portfolio will align with the School’s research theme (Prevention, Performance and Rehabilitation), complementing our existing physiotherapy, radiography and prosthetic and orthotic AHP provision and expertise.

Well known for offering high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate provision, SAHP offers a range of novel pre-registration AHP programmes; a four-year MSci Physiotherapy and a two-year MSc Physiotherapy, a two-year MSc Prosthetics and Orthotics (the 1st and only in the UK), and a BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging). The established BSc (Hons) Rehabilitation and Exercise Science Programme is evolving, and an exciting programme of exercise research developing concurrently. We also offer post-graduate programmes for Advanced Practitioners, new professional doctorates in Physiotherapy and in Medical Imaging and a range of CPD opportunities for clinical partners.

The post holder will play a key role strategically leading and developing a rehabilitation research portfolio, complementing, and enhancing existing research activity in the School, mentoring the growing number of post-doctoral academics, as well as supervising PGR students. The successful applicant will: have a doctorate in a related subject that supports the SAHP profile and strategic direction; be able to demonstrate a consistent substantial contribution to professional/clinical rehabilitation services; and have a proven track record of successful delivery and publication of high-quality research. They will also be able to demonstrate national/international impact of their research and have substantial and broad experience of both teaching undergraduate and postgraduate AHP students and supervising research.

Evolving AHP and Faculty resources include: a digital imaging suite; state-of-the-art anatomy facilities; a bespoke gait/motion analysis laboratory; plaster workshop; prosthetics/orthotics machine room; patient assessment suite; in addition to two “health houses” on campus with live screening facilities. The Keele Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic is also situated on campus, serving staff and the local community, and provides a placement opportunity for AHP students. SAHP students have interprofessional educational learning opportunities with other Faculty students including student: nurses, midwives, doctors, physiotherapists, radiographers, prosthetists, orthotists, pharmacists, paramedics, social workers, counsellors, and biomedical scientists.

Situated at the heart of Keele University’s beautiful and vibrant campus, SAHP plays an active role contributing to Faculty and University developments. As a TEF Gold institution, Keele University is renowned for its exciting approach to higher education, as well as innovative research, beautiful campus, strong community spirit and excellent student experience. Keele was proud to be named 2021 Global Sustainability Institution of the Year. With over 10,000 students enrolled and a total staff of approximately 2,000, the University provides high quality teaching across a wide range of academic and vocational subjects and promotes world-class research.
