Position Summary
This position is responsible for collaborating with the principal investigator (PI) on the design, conduct and reporting of research projects.
The successful candidate should be able to operate independently with minimal oversight by the PI. The applicant does not need experience in the area of kidney injury and/or metabolism, the focus of the Gewin lab’s research, but should have experience independently performing research projects. A willingness to learn new techniques is more important than specific skill sets.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborates with PI on the design, conduct, and reporting of research projects.
- Assists with grant preparation and reporting. May submit grant proposals in rare circumstances with the approval of the PI, Department Head and Dean.
- Prepares figures, drafts, and submits research papers in collaboration with PI.
- Performs mouse surgeries (the applicant should have experience working with mice but the surgical experience is not required), cell culture techniques, Seahorse bioflux analysis (experience with this is not required), and molecular biology techniques (Western blots, qPCR, FACS, microscopy, and immunohistochemistry).
- Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
- Works well with others within the lab and in other labs and is willing to supervise students and/or assist postdocs.
Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of standard laboratory policies, procedures, and equipment.
- Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel and technical publications.
- Ability to work well independently or as a team member.

Ph.D., M.D. or an equivalent terminal degree and at least three years of postdoctoral experience.

Salary Range
$59,200.00 - $107,400.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
