Project Summary
The purpose of the Bard DNA Fellows Program is to provide additional academic support,
mentorship, professional and leadership development, and a sense of community to Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Queens students during their four years here.
The Bard DNA Fellows Program aims to support students from historically underrepresented and/or economically disadvantaged backgrounds in their academic, social and emotional success at BHSEC Queens.

This summer, rising Year 1 students, in the Bard DNA Fellows Program, will be taking a 1-credit college course in Humanities. The purpose of this summer course is to support the academic transition of students who will be entering the college program in the Fall. It will also give students the opportunity to take a college course that is not offered here at BHSEC Queens.

Opportunity
BHSEC Queens is seeking (1-2) faculty members who will teach a 1-credit course during the summer. The course will take place either virtually or in-person from July 5th - July 28th, Tuesdays and Thursdays for 1 hour and 45 minutes per class. Faculty will be required to hold one office hour each week of the course and set aside an additional day to serve as a field trip day. Class dates are: July 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28

Faculty will be compensated with a $2,500 stipend. There will also be a budget for Faculty to take students on their field trip.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop an academic curriculum for the 1-credit course in Humanities
  • Hold one office hour each week of the program (totaling four hours over the summer)
  • Plan and coordinate one field trip, to take place on a day chosen by the faculty member

Compensation
Faculty will be compensated with a $2,500 stipend.

Start Date: July 5, 2022 to July 28, 2022
Location: This year, the summer program will take place either virtually or in-person at Bard High School Early College in Queens, NY

Preference is given to Candidates with the Following Qualifications:

  • Currently teaching at Bard High School Early College Queens or within the Bard Early College Network of schools
  • Experience in teaching a Humanities course not offered here at BHSEC Queens: sociology, psychology, etc.
  • Prior experience working with historically underrepresented students in higher education
