Job Summary
The Weatherhead Center for International Affairs facilitates the production of pathbreaking social science research on international, comparative, transnational, and global issues. Our community of scholars consists of over 400 affiliates from multiple social science disciplines and includes both Harvard faculty and students drawing from nine of Harvard’s schools as well as visitors to Harvard from all over the world. We house several dynamic research programs, initiatives, and clusters; host conferences, seminars, and workshops; and provide competitive fellowships to global scholars and research funding to Harvard faculty and students.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
Works closely with the Program’s executive director to coordinate an active international research program for faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting scholars. Coordinates postdoctoral fellows’ and visiting scholars’ applications, visas, and appointments. Orients visiting scholars on their academic experiences at Harvard, including auditing classes and IT support. Organizes a weekly seminar series, workshops, conferences, and other events (online and hybrid). Works with high-profile seminar speakers on their presentation materials, travel, accommodation, reimbursements, and honoraria. Leads on communications and outreach, including website design and updates. Collaborates with Harvard’s international centers on jointly sponsored events. Provides financial oversight and reporting, including external grants. Addresses building management issues, including equipment purchases. Performs other duties as required, and occasional overtime required.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of administrative experience. Education may count towards experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree strongly preferred. Excellent writing/editing, communication, organizational, and financial-management skills essential. Accuracy and attention to detail a must; familiarity with Harvard helpful. Excellent Microsoft Office (including Excel) and IT trouble-shooting skills a plus. Must have well-developed cross-cultural and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with Japanese culture and language an asset. This position is ideal for those seeking to develop their professional networks and skills related to Japan and East Asia, the social sciences, and/or university administration.
