Position Summary
Assist in plant and facility maintenance in the Biology greenhouse, growth chambers facility, Eisendrath native plant garden, and interior landscape within the Biology department on the Danforth Campus.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides assistance and guidance to growers, post-docs, grad students, and PIs as appropriate using effective communication.
- Repots, waters, fertilizes, relocates, trims and prunes, propagates, and arranges plants in the greenhouses, garden, and growth chambers. Monitors room temperatures and growing conditions while working and call for assistance when needed.
- Assists in maintenance of plant growth facilities and infrastructure, such as cleaning, washing reusable s, and moving supplies to needed areas. Takes inventory of supplies, growing mediums, pots, etc.
- Pests management, including scouting and biological control application.
- Communicates with facility users on making appointments, scheduling times for access, and on the success of their plant growth/other duties as signed.
Working Conditions
Typical greenhouse and growth chamber conditions—dirt, dust, fertilizers, chemicals, stooping and bending, standing and walking on hard and slippery surfaces, frequent lifting over 25 lbs, coping with heat and humidity indoors and outdoors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four year degree and/or an associate degree in horticulture with experience working in a research environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of and ambition to learn plant care, including watering, fertilization, pest identification, plant health monitoring, and different growing environments.
- Knowledge of plant and facility maintenance, effective communication skills in a timely manner, dependability.
Required Qualifications
Associate degree in horticulture and one year of experience working in a greenhouse or equivalent work experience and some horticulture education.

Salary Range
$15.15 - $20.22 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
