About the IAAP Foundation

The IAAP Foundation (“Foundation”) is a Kansas City, Missouri-based independent 501(c)(3) organization and a charitable partner of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP). Our mission is to invest in the success of office and administrative professionals by supporting innovative research, education, and professional development opportunities and affordable housing initiatives. IAAP is the premier network and resource for the administrative profession. The association is a vibrant community of professionals who seek knowledge, skills, and insights from the association that build toward career advancement, success, and recognition.

Together, IAAP and the Foundation serve as a leading catalyst for advancing the administrative profession on a global stage. The Foundation’s rich history spans nearly 75 years, and its organizational structure and mission have evolved over time in response to the needs of the administrative profession and IAAP.

The Foundation is a supporting organization and the philanthropic arm of IAAP. The Foundation is governed by an independent, volunteer board of directors elected by the IAAP membership. Two full time staff positions – a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and a Foundation Specialist – are responsible for the day-to-day operations with additional support from other IAAP staff through a Management and Administrative Services Agreement. The Foundation’s annual budget is funded through distributions from the Della Herring Trust, as well as tax-deductible contributions from individual, corporate, and other foundation donors.

Position Summary

The IAAP Foundation seeks a full-time CEO to fill a recent vacancy in this role. This is a senior leadership position responsible for managing the Foundation, directing the marketing and communications functions, and overseeing and growing the fund development program. Responsibilities include the following:

1. Strengthen and grow the fund development program

  • Expand external capacity for fund development
  • Strengthen positive relationships with IAAP members, current and prospective donors
  • Direct and monitor the fund development program including annual giving, major gifts, foundation and corporate giving, grants, events and planned giving
  • Seek new and creative opportunities to increase philanthropic income to the foundation

2. Maintain strong operations activities of the Foundation

  • Oversee the legal, fiscal and regulatory requirements of the Foundation, ensuring organizational compliance
  • Maintain systems that support effective collaboration with IAAP and a geographically disbursed membership and donor base
  • Oversee, develop and mentor Foundation Specialist, maintaining evaluations, hiring/firing and salary administration decisions for that role
  • Effectively provide governance guidance and counsel, facilitate development, and support the Foundation board of directors, ensuring the board is well informed for decision making

3. Partner with the CEO of IAAP

  • Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with all IAAP team members
  • Promote and maintain a diverse, inclusive, and positive workplace culture in alignment with existing team cultural agreements and norms
  • Partner in planning and execution of the strategic objectives of the IAAP Foundation, aligning funding and support strategies to the critical priorities of the association

4. Communicate the Foundation’s vision and goals to its membership and larger community

  • Strengthen and oversee multi-channel communications strategies to reach all audiences
  • Create brand awareness and promote the IAAP Foundation to internal and external stakeholders, possibly including public speaking, presentations, and/or facilitating discussions

Desired Professional and Personal Qualifications

  • Passion for, and knowledge about, the nonprofit sector and the significant role of administrative professionals in the workplace
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit management, leadership, and policy issues, especially those pertaining to associations and related foundations
  • Ability to recruit, lead and mentor staff and board members
  • 5 years’ experience in fundraising for nonprofit organizations
  • Desire to strengthen and grow a fund development program
  • Ability to manage multiple complex and collaborative projects simultaneously
  • Financial management and budgeting skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial justice, equity, and inclusion
  • Strong networking and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build member and donor relationships
  • Ability to establish and grow collaborative partnerships
  • Ability to engage volunteers in a broad range of activities
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including listening to and communicating with diverse groups

Compensation & Benefits

The Foundation offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including PTO and health insurance. Also, the CEO will find a positive, engaging, and flexible work environment.

The compensation range for this position is $115,000 to $150,000. The actual salary for the candidate selected will be based on their background and skills.
