Position Summary
Conducts translational research in a liver pathobiology laboratory and collaborates with faculty in ongoing and planned research.
 Essential Functions
  • Provides instruction and mentors to residents, fellows, and students on the fundamentals of cellular and molecular biology, evidence-based medicine, research principles, and methodologies
  • Develops and maintains research programs in Division of Hepatology including but not limited to alcoholic liver injury to end-stage liver disease and obesity-induced liver and other research projects
  • Collaborates on projects on basic, clinical and translational aspects of hepatology
  • Small animal handling experience required including iv/ip/sc/im injections, tissue removal, cell isolation, and handling.
  • Require at least 5 years of experience in RT-PCR, Western Blotting, tissue cell culture (primary and commercially available cell lines, co-cultures,) Bioassays, radio-immunoassays, ELISA, IHC, in-situ microscopy, confocal microscopy.
  • Require expertise in the use of common laboratory instruments – pH meter, sonicator, centrifuges, ultracentrifuges, calorimeters, spectrophotometers, fluorometers, scintillation counter, microscopy (light and florescence)
  • Familiarity in IACUC protocol writing
  • Executes laboratory experiments to generate data, performs data analysis and interpretation, maintains laboratory notebooks and presents data at laboratory meetings  
  • Writes manuscripts for publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Prepares abstracts and presents research findings at local and national meetings
  • Conceives, develops, writes, and submits small grant applications
  • Participates in safety and quality assurance activities

Physical Requirements
Involves long periods of sitting or standing and some walking. Occasional lifting of documents, supplies, equipment, solutions and chemicals required. Requires using hazardous biologicals and chemicals.
Education, Experience and Certifications
MD and/or Ph.D. with at least 1-2 years of relevant postdoctoral research in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology or related science. Demonstrates a strong publication record.
Up to four years. Initial appointment for one year. Appointment may be renewed on a year-to-year basis for an additional three years
