Job Title Research Scientist
Job Description
This position will support the research efforts of the Notre Dame Turbomachinery Laboratory. Our mission is to develop advanced technologies for the propulsion and power industries. 
The scientist will be responsible for executing research programs from inception to finish. This will include planning of the scientific and technical objectives, design of experiments, conducting and supervising experiments, data processing, and reporting.
 Responsibilities will also include a diverse set of tasks in support of experimental research and testing.
The successful candidate must be familiar with theoretical and experimental methods for the analysis of high-speed turbomachinery and thermodynamic cycles. 
Must be able to organize and prioritize work independently and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment where creativity and flexibility are highly regarded.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Scientific/technical consultation: designing, conducting, and supervising experiments, including contributing to test article and facility design
  • Data processing and reporting: managing program data, organizing, and communicating findings to colleagues and sponsors
  • Assist with proposal preparation
  • Mentorship of graduate students, postdoctoral associates, and staff 
  • Academic Communication: sharing new findings via refereed journal publication and conference participation
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in aerospace, mechanical, or related engineering field required. 
  • The successful candidate will need the ability to multi-task and interact with individuals with varying levels of experience while working closely with faculty, staff and students. 
  • Familiarity with aerospace test environment required. 
  • Demonstrated technical communication skills required. 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute experiments required. 
  • Experience from doctoral research is acceptable.
