Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.
Additional Department Summary: This position will lead and support in the development and publishing research on various topics relating to the IDA’s projects. Topics include but are not limited to: Data Acquisitions, Security and Storage, Data Mining, Business Analytics, Business Intelligence, Statistics, Health Analytics, Optimization, etc. The postdoctoral scholar will at times need to concurrently complete research goals involving peer review publications and task-driven analytic projects as detailed by extramurally funded projects. Opportunities will also be available for the scholar to assist with the development and submission of applications for externally funded contracts and grants.
Founded in 2015, the Institute of Data and Analytics (IDA) is the research hub for the Culverhouse College of Business at the University of Alabama and serves as a coordinator for University-wide research activities, particularly as it pertains to the technical aspects of working with data. Additionally, the IDA manages all funded research activity and serves as a nexus point for faculty, research staff, and students. The multidisciplinary team at the IDA seeks to develop and cultivate data and analytics expertise through evidence-based research via communicating applied research discoveries and approaches with technically-focused students, faculty, and various corporate, community, and government partners with underutilized data. IDA projects range from focused academic investigations to major corporate partnerships, to servicing the needs of our State and Nation (e.g., methodological and evidence-based studies, Lockheed Martin and Protective Life, Alabama State Opioid Repository). Required Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate. Additional qualifications based on assignment.
Skills and Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of data and analytic methodologies, structure, and application to a variety of fields. Additionally, experience with publishing in scientific peer-reviewed journals.
