Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.
Additional Department Summary: The postdoctoral scientist will work on simulation and data analysis from RNO-Greenland, the IceCube Upgrade and IceCube-Gen2, focusing on calibration and applications of machine learning to modeling the effects of calibration uncertainties on physics data in radio and optical neutrino detection. The postdoc will be working as part of the IceCube EPSCOR Initiative group.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate. Additional qualifications based on assignment.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Physics and Astronomy, or closely related field. Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in simulation and the analysis of astrophysical neutrino data in radio and/or optical detectors, as well as a good general understanding and familiarity with high-energy astrophysical data. Familiarity with optical and/or radio neutrino detector hardware and modeling of ice properties will be considered a strong asset. Previous experience on the application of machine learning algorithms to physics data will be considered a very strong asset.
