Overview:

The Associate Dean assumes a leadership role working in a highly collaborative and positive manner to further develop distance learning and professional development opportunities. The Associate Dean is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the Office of Online and Distance Learning. This includes oversight of the Office of Online and Distance Learning staff and working collectively with staff, as well as coordinating with program faculty, Academic Affairs, Administration, IT support, and learning vendors. The Associate Dean works closely with college leaders to collaborate with faculty in the establishment of new programs and to ensure their success. Assists with the development, delivery, and coordination of training and professional/faculty development initiatives that incorporate the principles of best practice in online and distance education. Serves as a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage faculty and other key stakeholders in long-range operational planning related to online course and program development and distance learning.
  • Develops and maintains records and statistical analysis of the effectiveness of departmental programs and initiatives. Prepares departmental documents and reports as required.
  • Supervision of the Office of Online and Distance Learning staff and budget.
  • Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization’s policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines. Ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations regarding any function of Human Resources.
  • Works in collaboration with the instructional deans to identify qualified faculty to teach online and in other distance delivery methods.
  • Creates and maintains professional development opportunities for online faculty and faculty using other distance delivery methods.
  • Works with the faculty and instructional deans in compiling and analyzing assessment data for online courses and programs and distance education offerings.
  • Provides the instructional deans with curriculum recommendations and modifications related to online courses and programs and distance education offerings.
  • Assists faculty in the preparation of documentation required for shared governance processes.
  • Attends, facilitates and/or leads meetings and in-service programs related to online learning and resource development and distance education.
  • In collaboration with the instructional deans, develops a course schedule for online courses and programs.
  • Collaborates with instructional deans to monitor workloads of faculty assigned to teach online and distance education courses.
  • Participates in accreditation activities at the program and college levels as needed.
14.Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics
Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College’s Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of training/ organizational development practices, policies, and procedures. Ability to develop curriculum and deliver effective training and development initiatives to various constituencies.
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, and work effectively with multiple constituencies.
  • Strong organizational skills and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of performance management review and development processes and programs.
  • Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required reports, analysis, documentation of outcomes, and recommendations.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively influence and lead others.
  • Analytical ability to identify and resolve a variety of issues or challenges in an effective and timely manner.
  • Ability to utilize independent judgment and work autonomously.
  • Mental ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Physical ability to sit/stand, and travel, for short and extended periods of time.
Education, Certification, Licensure:
  • Master’s degree required.
  • Valid driver’s license is required
  • Training certifications e.g., DDI Certification, Certified Faculty Developer are highly desirable.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of administrative or managerial experience, preferably in a college environment required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an instructional designer, facilitator or trainer in an educational or service industry required.
  • Experience teaching online and face to face, preferably in a community college required.
  • Experience in administration of Learning Management Systems required.
  • Experience working with computer software (i.e. MS Office, Excel, and performance and learning management database applications) required.
  • Experience in computer progrmming preferred.
Working Environment:
  • The job responsibilities of this position are performed in an office environment which requires a professional image and demeanor, on-time attendance and reliability. The environment has little if any discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is light noise within the environment.
  • There may be occasional travel to other college locations for meetings.
  • There may be occasional travel for conferences/training.
  • Duties are performed in an independent atmosphere without close direct supervision.
  • The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 45 pounds).
  • Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines, quotas, or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some unpleasant situations.
  • Typical work schedule is 8:00am – 4:30pm with flexible or extended hours as needed by department demands.
