The instructor will be a member of a team that supports student achievement and success from recruitment through graduation and beyond, advancing equitable economic mobility, personal empowerment, and transformed communities. An instructor conducts college courses at appropriate rigor for undergraduate students as assigned by the department chair and approved by the dean. The instructor will facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing appropriate and meaningful instructional activities. The instructor will also evaluate student learning by creating and implementing well-designed assessment tools. Additionally, the instructor will participate in curriculum development, advise students, and engage in institutional service, professional development, and other duties assigned by the department chair. This individual will also keep accurate records pertaining to students and adhere to all institutional policies and procedures.
- Master’s Degree in English or closely related field with at least 18 graduate hours in English. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a United States Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
- Two years of teaching experience.
- Willingness and ability to teach face-to-face classes.
- Experience with distance learning technologies.
- Understanding of assessment and continuous improvement.
- Willingness and ability to travel to multiple campuses as necessary.
- Willingness and ability to teach morning, afternoon, and evening classes as needed.
- Willingness and ability to teach high school students at the high schools as needed.
- Willingness and ability to work as part of a cohesive team.
- Willingness and ability to work primarily from an offsite center or campus, as assigned.
- Understanding of and commitment to the unique mission and vision of Forsyth Tech.
- At least three years teaching experience in a community college
- Experience teaching hybrid, online, and/or multimodal courses
Teaching and Learning:
- Assumes responsibility for teaching assignments as recommended by the department chairperson and approved by the dean.
- Facilitates the learning process by designing and implementing inclusive instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful and that maximize equitable student outcomes.
- Adheres to the departmental course guidelines and ensures that content includes program, state, and SACSCOC-approved competencies.
- Assumes responsibility for accurately maintaining all required college records, including attendance and grade reports.
- Compiles resources of specialized materials for outside reading assignments, where applicable.
- Assesses student learning using appropriate modalities.
- Appropriately utilizes learning management system tools as required by the college and/or department.
- Maintains, reviews, and updates course descriptions, objectives, and syllabi for courses of instruction.
- Incorporates inclusive content and works to eliminate discriminatory and exclusionary content from curriculum.
- Intentionally designs learning experiences that extend beyond facilitating classroom instruction and assist students in achieving course, program, and degree outcomes.
- Develops new courses of study as necessary.
- Makes recommendations to department chairperson for selection of supplies, equipment, equipment repairs, textbooks for courses of study, and the scheduling of classroom and laboratory facilities.
- Participates in departmental activities relative to revising and updating the program(s) in the area of expertise.
- Assists with the development of new courses in the area of expertise.
- Engages in curriculum and program development that incorporates current educational theories and research.
- Applies holistic advising principles to support students in the fulfillment of their educational and career goals.
- Actively engages advisees.
- Participates in department, division, and college-wide advising activities.
- Learns and maintains proficiency with program requirements of assigned advisees.
- Utilizes student advising, registration, and retention tools (ie. Colleague, MyForsythTech, and Navigate)
- Follows up with all assigned advisees.
- Attends training sessions relative to advising.
- Maintains appropriate student hours.
- Develops a professional development plan approved by supervisor.
- Maintains current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for position.
- Maintains membership and participation in professional organizations, as applicable.
- Pursues continuous improvement in the areas of subject matter expertise; teaching and learning; the use of educational technology; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and other areas related to the strategic goals of the college.
- Reads professional literature.
